We had the great privilege of a visit from Oom Nico Langenhoven, who turns 86 in July - and what a honour it always is to spend time with this remarkable oom.

No matter how long one has been in the industry, there is always more to learn from him. His knowledge and deep love for bees are truly inspiring.

Oom Nico's journey with bees started when he was just 5 years old, helping his father. What began as a childhood fascination grew into a lifelong passion. Beekeeping was first a hobby, but in 1996 he turned it into a successful career.

In 2016, he was recognized for his incredible contribution when he received the Beekeeper of the Year award from the South African Bee Industry Organization (SABIO), honouring 50 YEARS of services to the bee industry in South Africa. What an achievement!

Thank you, oom Nico, for the stories, lessons and legacy you continue to build. The bee industry is better because of you. 🐝💛
