🫧 What is a Tallow Soap Bar?

Our Saltbox Boerseep Tallow Soap Bar is a traditional, time-honoured soap made from carefully rendered beef tallow and sodium hydroxide (lye). Through a natural process called saponification, these ingredients are transformed into a rich, gentle and long-lasting soap bar.

The result? A beautifully simple soap that cleans effectively while helping to support your skin's natural barrier.

🧼 What Can You Use Tallow Soap For?

One of the things we love most about tallow soap is its versatility:

✨ Face + Body
Gentle and non-drying, making it suitable for sensitive and dry skin.

✨ Shaving
Creates a creamy lather that provides excellent slip while helping to moisturise the skin.

✨ Baby Skin
Simple, mild and nourishing for delicate skin.

✨ Hands & Hardworking Skin
Ideal for skin that has become dry or damaged from frequent washing and everyday life.

✨ Low-Waste Living
Helps remove tough fabric stains or to wipe down surfaces.

🌿 Is It Still Natural?

Yes! Although sodium hydroxide (lye) is used during soap making, none remains once the soap has fully cured.

During saponification, the lye reacts completely with the tallow to create soap. The finished bar contains no residual sodium hydroxide - only soap, water and any ingredients added afterwards.

Our Tallow Soap Bar is completely free from synthetic fragrances, colourants and fillers. It is intentionally simple, making it a gentle choice for the whole family and biodegradable in every meaningful sense.

Sometimes the simplest ingredients are all you need. 🤍
