I don't often post from the Urban FF page anymore but my history with Gordon is highly intertwined with the period I owned the shop.

The Tuesday night fly-tying sessions helped us both grow immeasurably and I miss the fellowship. I can't still hear him banging on about form following function through the open window while I was outside cooking the food for all the ravenous attendees.

When a customer left his cell phone in my store, I scrolled through his saved numbers, stopped at 'Mum', and pushed send. His mother answered, and I told her what happened. "Don't worry" she said, "I'll take care of it". A few minutes later, the cell phone beeped. It was a text message from 'Mum'. "Martin" it read "you left your cell phone at Urban Flyfishers".

It's been too long since I last fished so I sent an email to [email protected] and secured a slot to fish Kloofzight Lodge this Sunday, here's hoping I have a good day out and get a few decent fish.

We would also like to take this time to thank everyone involved in arranging a tournament like this.

Mpumalanga Fly Fishing Association has put in a lot of effort to ensure there is plenty of fish for everyone, they have spent countless hours clearing access to the river as well as making arrangements for Marshals and sector Judges, securing accommodation. Lyle Smith we wish you and the support staff a successful tournament!

Safe travels everyone and see you at the Opening Ceremony tomorrow night.

When I owned and operated UFF I was often hampered (or not) by a lack of in depth knowledge regarding the theories of fly fishing. However what I did know was I had an innate instinct to reel with my left hand and use my dominant arm for rod control. I had many debates with both inexperienced and experienced clients while setting up reels and trying to advise why and heard many reasons for and against.
