A contingent of members of the Knysna MG Car Club recently visited the Dockyard and resulted in a lineup of vintage cars parked in front of the venue and down Napier's main road. Several cars had unfortunately gone by the time the photo was taken.

Thought I should show what progress is being made in the setting up of the new Napier Toy Dockyard after the closure of the old one late last year. The main train board has undergone a complete revamp, with, in particular, a better and more practical O-gauge rail track. The main boat and other toy sections are now displayed to better advantage. A fair amount of work remains to be done before, hopefully, again opening the doors to visitors. A few pics attached.

NOTICE: Alan is pleased to give notice that the Napier Toy Dockyard will reopen shortly. This follows on his decision to remain in Napier, and not to relocate as intended. The opening date will be announced nearer the time.

15/09/2017

NOTICE : The Napier Toy Dockyard will regretfully close down permanently on Sunday 17 September 2017, a date much earlier than originally anticipated. Additionally, the manufacture and sale of the well known and loved, Rose steam boats, will also terminate from that date.

The former Napier Toy Museum was established by Alan and Rose Raubenheimer in late 1993, and for some twenty years was a popular 'must see' for tourists and others visiting the village A scaled down version of the toy museum, the present Napier Toy Dockyard, was then established, and although never as popular with the public as was the toy museum, it has also been a valued draw card in the village.

Alan will be moving to his son and daughter-in-law, Rene, who have the Old Trading Post Guest House just beyond Wilderness village. He takes this opportunity of thanking all in Napier who, by all their support, friendship and encouragement, both in his and in Rose's time, have contributed so much to their happiness in this best of towns in the Overberg.

An interesting and unusual recent addition to the Napier Toy Dockyard collection is this hybrid locomotive and tender devised by Alan Raubenheimer. Given a near scrap Hornby 4 : 4 : 4 clockwork tank loco dating from the late 1920's, and already having restored one (also on view in the Dockyard and shown here) Alan decided to convert it to a design of his own, The clockwork motor was still in working condition, together with the main driving wheels. The front and after sections of the loco were cut off and cab and other fittings made and fitted. A tender was added, thus completing the conversion of the loco from tanker to 0 : 4 : 0 tendered one A great performer on the track !
