Chapter 2.
SIBUSISO "SIBS" MKHIZE
I lounge on the plush couch at the luxurious villa in Magaliesburg, surrounded by my teammates and the sounds of celebration. The villa's private bar and outdoor pool make it the perfect spot to unwind after a big win. Relebohile and Themba are holding court, reenacting the highlights of the game and cracking jokes.
"Dude, Sibs, you're a ladies' man!" Relebohile exclaims, chuckling. "You've got the whole stadium swooning over you!"
Themba chimes in, grinning. "And you're lucky, too! That girl you've got a thing for is a famous social media influencer. She's got a huge following online!"
My eyes widen in surprise. "What? I have no idea," I say, intrigued.
Themba nods. "Yeah, her stage name is SihleDlamz. She's got a ton of followers and fans. You're basically dating a celebrity, Sibs!"
I make a mental note to look her up and see what all the fuss is about. I can't believe I didn't know she was a public figure. I feel a sudden urge to stalk her online and learn more about her.
Relebohile and Themba continue to tease me, but I'm too busy thinking about Sphesihle – or SihleDlamz, as I'm coming to know her. I'm eager to learn more about her and see where things might go.
I step away from the lively celebration and find a quiet spot with decent lighting. I sit down and answer the video call, seeing my mom and sister Siwe's smiling faces.
"Congratulations, Sibu! You played an amazing game!" Siwe exclaims, her eyes shining with excitement.
My mom's voice is filled with pride. "We're so proud of you, Sibusiso. You truly deserve this win."
I smile, feeling a mix of happiness and nostalgia. My mom's expression turns somber, and she says, "Your father would be proud of you too, if he were here. He always knew you'd make it big."
I feel a lump form in my throat as I glance away, trying to process the emotions. Siwe's eyes well up with tears, and she looks away ,trying to compose herself. I take a deep breath and look back at my mom, trying to stay strong.
"Thanks, Mom. It means a lot coming from you," I say, my voice a little shaky
We chat for a bit longer, sharing stories and laughter, but the mention of my dad lingers in the air, a poignant reminder of what's missing. I try to shake off the sadness and focus on the celebration, but it's hard to ignore the ache in my heart.
