My Maths Buddy/ My wiskunde Buddie

Early on in one’s school career, one of the first purchases should be a dictionary that is taken on a journey through Grade 12 and beyond.

As our knowledge of grammar increases and the greater our vocabulary becomes, the better our command of the language. Each year of schooling builds on this foundation which leads to increased thought which translates into articulation. With a language, when you can read it, speak it, you are in control of it and you can apply it. In essence we are applying learnt words to situations.

How often have we heard of Mathematics being referred to as a language? Seldom? Mathematics, is expressed in a symbolic language and as lessons build on each other, so the acquisition of Mathematics increases. Learners need to be assisted with the process of learning to read and write Mathematics, which translates into the development of abstract thoughts in a symbolic language.

Just as language essays need to be formatted correctly, so do mathematical calculations need to be expressed clearly and logically to present a thought or outcome. My Maths Buddy is a resource developed for educators and learners from Grade 3 to 12 that assists with the acquisition of Maths.

My Maths Buddy has proven its effectiveness in increasing Maths understanding, application and results. Since release in March 2012, it has sold over 17 000 copies.
