What started off in Nadja’s home kitchen as a passion for environmentally friendly products and sustainable resources soon developed into a small business, when the name Pure Touch was born and she started selling them in a small local shop. Her two hands quickly needed more hands to knit and crochet. Being a social worker, she wanted to provide women in the vulnerable community of Ocean View with

the opportunity to earn an income, helping them support themselves and their families. In February 2020 this dream became reality when she recruited three women from the community to knit and crochet high quality, eco-friendly products using 100% natural, locally sourced yarns. Pure Touch is growing to become a social enterprise, selling beautifully handmade products but with the focus on building relationships and a community of women that support each other. By teaching new skills and providing opportunities for income generation and social support within a business structure we aim to uplift and empower women in the community. We currently work with a group of 8 amazing women – married and single mothers, widows and grannies with whom we meet twice a week. During our meetings we train, knit and crochet, share, laugh and support one another.

Shortly after one of our ladies in the team, Katie, passed away recently, we decided to all make a photo collage together and hang it up in the trauma counselling centre where we all meet twice a week.

A very emotional morning: We cried together and then laughed together when we looked at the photos, as they recalled memories together.

It was such a valuable little project, contributing to the healing and processing of the grief of loosing not only Katie but also Hazel last year!

The result was a beautiful collage of both, filled with beautiful memories!!

There are many different ways of grieving the loss of a loved one. This was one of them.

… in our popular winter product, our mini hot water bottle covers, hand knitted from 100% bamboo/cotton yarn.

Our mini hotties have become little beanbags that can be easily heated in the microwave to warm your bed or baby’s cot or used as a cold pack against swelling and pain.

Organic, super soft, safer to use and they still look like a little hot water bottle-just like before.
