Why the name?

Henning Hüsing (sometimes spelt Huising or Huisen) was South Africa’s first entrepreneur. He was a farmer that supplied meat to the VOC and passing ships from 1678 and onwards.

Our name pays homage to the legacy of Henning Hüsing.

A new publication has just been released, covering the enigmatic PRO PATRIA MEDAL, probably one of the most recognised symbols of the SADF, and to thousands of “Troepies” who saw Border Service.

The book is a must for the medal collector, as it covers all the Types and Varients of the Pro Patria (A total of 10), with a comprehensive write-up, documentation and pictures of these, the manufacturing process, and the ribbon accoutrements I.e: Bars, Clasps, and Symbols that adorn the Medal ribbon. Also covered are the various Medal Certificate types, Boxes of issue and then the very first 48 Medals awarded, all posthumously to Operation Savannah participants.

However, it is not just a Reference or Medal Book, as the author has also brought alive the numerous SADF cross-border Operations, with personal accounts of action, bravery and the related awards won, including exclusive pictures or the very first Honoris Crux GOLD Decoration ( #1) and one of the first Honoris Crux Silver awards - interviewing some of the more famous, but also lesser known soldiers of the time, including a high ranking Soviet Advisor to SWAPO, and a Cuban PoW, making for a very interesting read.
