We know we aren’t perfect and don’t claim to be. Part of our commitment to being a Place of Craft and a Place of Science™ is about being transparent about where we have come from, where we are at, and where we want to go. We don’t wish to make bold claims, but we do wish to celebrate our wins. Wins that come from daily commitments, actions and progress. In the future, we believe transparency in the supply chain will be a part of how people make their buying decisions. We are happy for people to know exactly where and how their belt was made, and we believe more and more people are starting to ask these important questions.

We try our best to back up our sustainability, and other, claims with science. So much so that we know exactly how much energy it takes to make a belt in our factory. Turns out, it’s as little as your morning cuppa. Our commitment to science goes well beyond our energy consumption, forming part of how we approach everything that we do. Science also lies in our understanding of ever-changing consumer behaviour, innovations in raw materials, sustainability and use of technology.

Where craft and science intersect, is our commitment to innovating with raw materials. That means increasingly ensuring the ethics, quality and certifications of our leathers. It means using more recycled leather whilst aiming to maintain quality. It means localising our supply chain and developing new materials altogether – like the plant-based fabrications we have been, and continue to work on. Ultimately it means aiming to make the most responsible belt out there.

Did you know that this month is Plastic Free July? Here are a few of the ways in which we are reducing plastic in our factory:

- We've replaced desiccant sachets with less-waste dehumidifying sticker technology
- We are working on plastic-free alternatives to plastic belt hangers
- We use biodegradable box tape instead of conventional plastic tape
- We are working hard on plant-based leather alternatives to the PU (plastic) leather which is often marketed as vegan. Some of our plant based fabrications have already been introduced into our products.
- We are increasingly reducing plastic in our packaging wherever possible.

How are you reducing plastic in your home or business?
