The most famous white woman in South Africa is now 90, always ten years older than her imposter. She has been in the public domain since 1981 when she, as South African Ambassador to Bapetikosweti, caught the public’s ear and eye. She has experienced the dramas of the National Party’s chalk becoming the ANC’s cheese. Still in her Luthuli House kitchen Tannie Evita shares her opinions of 30 years of ANC rule. She doesn’t need a crystal ball to see what is happening to South Africa. The future of our country is certain; it’s just the past that’s unpredictable. Evita will prove that once again, as she brings needed humour into our present democratic wilderness.

Pieter-Dirk Uys en Evita is sinoniem met Darling in die Wes-Kaap, die afgelope meer as 30 jaar sy tuiste. “Ek het in die Kaap gewoon en besluit toe op die eerste Vryheidsdag ná 1994 om McGregor toe te ry. Ek was nog nooit daar nie en almal het gesê dis so pragtig. Ek ry toe McGregor toe... net om te hoor ek is eintlik op Darling. Dis soos iemand wat China toe gaan en in Brasilië beland," vertel hy in Bruis. “Ek sien toe ’n Duitse restaurant en d**k ek is nou hier, ek sal maar ’n schnitzel eet. Ek klop aan die deur en Herman the German maak oop. Hy sê dis te vroeg in die oggend, die bees staan nog in die veld; ek moet twee uur gaan rondloop en dan terugkom.” In die straat loop Pieter ’n eiendomsagent raak wat hom dadelik herken nadat sy hom die vorige week in die Baxter-teater in Kaapstad gesien het. Sy bied toe aan om vir hom die dorp én ’n huis wat in die mark was, te wys. “Toe ons om die draai kom, staan daar ’n ou Victoriaanse huis met skewe shutters wat al sewe jaar leeg staan. En ek weet net ek moet hierdie huis hê!"
