Scented Life was the dream come true of a financial director that was gatvol of the corporate world and decided to grow his hair, sell his car, ride to Imhoff Farm Farm on his bicycle every morning and . . . PLAY!
Robin Dauncey and I moved to the amazing village Kommetjie in 2007 and he fell in love. The people, the vibe, the surf and just everything life had to offer. The longer we stayed, the more eccentric he became. In 2015 I arrived home from my accounting job to my new hippie in his sarong and Viking plait to be informed that he is from now on a soap maker. Needless to say, I was gob smacked. But the idea Robin had came to life. A crafting space where anybody (old and young) could come and play. Together with his crafters, Robin would make colourful and scented soaps, debate the consistency of body lotion for hours on end and even crafted a beautiful rose bath bomb the size of 1L yogurt tub (that ended up in our pool on a beautiful summer day 😊). I was never sure what was Robin’s biggest attraction to his business – the creating and making of wonderful things; or the endless conversations that he had with everyone that popped in. Robin always had a coffee ready (and I always had bottle of wine open).
Sadly, Robin passed away very suddenly in September. I am heartbroken and was delighted to get a message from Brittany asking for a craft session and the goal of actually selling her own products. We met up and made a soap and my dream to continue the name and logo of this special little business came true. Brittany Leigh Calder and her fiancé Bevan will continue and combine Scented Life with Body To Life Health and Beauty. My wish for this young and beautiful couple is success but more than that, hours of playing and having fun with their creations.
Thank you to all the crafters that have visited us over the years. Although the nature of the business will be more retail orientated, I have no doubt that once Brittany and Bevan start exploring, they will also come up with amazing creations!
