We source, design and wholesale African baskets from all over the continent. In Southern Africa we play an active role in keeping alive traditional basket weaving skills through training and by facilitating contact between remote rural areas and the city based world of contemporary interior design.

We’re proud to share that we have been selected as part of South Africa’s Most Beautiful Objects 2026, to be unveiled at Ten x Ten at Decorex Africa 2026.

Our featured pieces include:
- A finely woven basket by master weaver Mashe Mbumbo from the Okavango, Botswana
- A dramatic woven sculpture from Rwanda
- A ceramic sculpture by Antoinette du Plessis, inspired by traditional African headrests
- A many-fired ceramic work by Belinda Blignaut, whose muse is the earth

These pieces form part of a curated presentation by 100% Design Africa across 10 categories.

A glimpse into Where Colour Flows: The Okavango Basket exhibition.

This exhibition celebrates the remarkable weaving traditions of the Bayei and Hambukushu communities of north-west Botswana, bringing together colour, craft and cultural heritage through a collection of exceptional handwoven baskets.

Developed through a series of workshops in Gumare between 2025 and 2026, the exhibition showcases pieces woven to the highest standard while exploring exciting new developments in pattern, colour and technique.

If you missed the opening, or haven’t had the chance to visit yet, there is still time. The exhibition remains on display until 27 June 2026.

I have always been drawn to the skill and art of weaving.

It’s a rhythm passed down through generations, hands moving with memory, materials transformed through patience. Every basket, every thread carries more than form. It holds culture and the stories of the people who made it. No two pieces are ever the same and that’s where the beauty lives, in the imperfections, the individuality, the human touch.

For me, this isn’t just craft, it’s a commitment. A deep respect for African design and the hands behind it. I have always aimed to create an honest bridge: bringing these incredible, heritage-rich pieces into a global space, while protecting the integrity of the craft and the communities who create them.

Because true design isn’t only about aesthetics, it’s about origin, meaning and legacy.

Come and explore these pieces in person at our showroom, where every weave has a story to tell.

Come and appreciate the woven works of Memory K***a and the women of her village in Zambia, alongside copper jewellery.

Together, these pieces celebrate traditional African techniques, materiality and the stories carried through making.

To be opened by Solly Levy, the afternoon will also feature a talk by Dawn Close of the Foundation for the Realization of Economic Empowerment (FREE), who will share insights into Zambian craft traditions and the broader geopolitical context in which these remarkable works are created.

Join us for the opening of Weave Africa, an exhibition celebrating the craft of Zambia, on Saturday, 13 June, from 11am to 3pm at our Old Church Showroom, 42 Roodebloem Road, Woodstock.

To be opened by Solly Levy, the afternoon will also feature a talk by Dawn Close of the Foundation for the Realization of Economic Empowerment (FREE), who will share insights into Zambian craft traditions and the broader geopolitical context in which these remarkable works are created.

The exhibition celebrates the richness of African making through the woven works of Memory K***a and the women of her village in Zambia, alongside handcrafted copper jewellery that reflects a deep connection to material, tradition, and skill.

As always, there will be good conversation, a glass of wine, delicious snacks, and a thoughtfully curated setting that honours the makers and their work.

Our previous workshop was sold out, so we’re doing another one.

Join us for 3 inspiring days of weaving with skilled basketry trainer and master weaver Memory K***a from Lusaka, Zambia.

From 10 - 12 June, Memory will share her knowledge of three different weaving techniques, including a beautiful coil weaving method that has been passed down through generations of skilled artisans.

Ever wanted to try Mopane worms straight from Botswana?

Join us this Saturday for the opening of the Where Colour Flows: The Okavango Basket Exhibition, where we’ll be serving them up as a tasty traditional snack.

A celebration of colour, craft and culture. This special collaboration between Design Afrika and Impact Fund Botswana brings together the intricate weaving traditions of the Bayei and Hambukushu tribes of north-west Botswana.

Born from workshops in Gumare (2025 - 2026), each basket has been meticulously woven to the highest standard, whilst demonstrating a few new exciting developments.
