A huge thank you to all of you who like my page! If you are a pet lover and you have a wish list of pet products you wish could be available, let me know. I am going to launch two cat products soon which are not yet available in SA. Here I am approaching 60 with my sister who has passed that mark entering a new field.

My greatest learning is, "One is only limited by the limitations of one's own mind."

Thanks, your feedback inspires me!

At Pet Savvy, we care about the safety and comfort of all pets. Thus, we have taken great strain to ensure that we AND YOU know everything there is to know about caring for your pet. Below are some tips for choosing the best home for your furry friends.

Q Which factors affect the well-being of dogs who are housed outdoors the most.
A The elements, parasites and sharp objects in their housing.

WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR:
Safety, sanitation and comfort …
• Ensure that there are no protruding nails, splinters, staples or other sharp objects? Examine the exterior as well as the interior.
• Look for features that reduce temperature during extreme hot or cold temperatures, dustproofs, reduces noise pollution and serves as a vapour barrier e.g. double-sided aliminium sisalation that has been properly installed.
• Maintain by using a preservative on the exterior as varnish flakes.
• For hygiene and comfort purposes, a cushion with a water-resistent inner is preferable to a blanket.

Q What constitutes a quality product?
A The quality of the raw materials, structure and workmanship.

WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR:
Robust and durable …
• Timber from recycled pallets is usually rough and splintered. Not recommended!
• There should be no blatant gaps in the structure that will make the kennel drafty and encourage the infestation of parasites.
• The base of the kennel should be supported as the timber will rot when constantly exposed to water. See whether a preservative that combats rotting wood and the infestation of parasites has been applied to the underside of the base. Further protection in the form of plastic caps on the feet of the kennel is a big plus.
• Look out for excessive use of filler to cover up poor workmanship.
• DIY kennels are recommended as they solve potential transport problems. The interior and exterior of DIY kennels are exposed and hence poor workmanship would be evident.

Q What to look for in the appearance?
A The finish and design.

WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR:
Aesthetically appealing …
• Ensure that there are no rough edges, and that the kennel is proportionate. Take into consideration the apex of the roof proportionate to the rest of the kennel to facilitate run-off water.
• Design is a matter of preference although A-frame kennels are more popular than the slanted-roof variety. Colours range from natural looking cottage to dark brown and in some instances kennels are painted. Indulge your personal choice!
• Rubberised shade cloth roofing that has a smooth finish (no bulges) is recommended. Corrugated roofing does not absorb noise and is not a good conductor of heat.

Price … BEST VALUE FOR MONEY! Don’t compromise quality, safety and comfort for price! All of the above recommendations will add to the lifespan of your kennel and your pet.

I caught them again. The kitten is growing bigger now, and you can really hear Toby snoring here!
