One thing I’m glad most of us agree on is that the shape of jeans you wear matters. Skinny, straight, bootcut, flared and everything in between. Im not gonna get on a Joan Rivers tip about skinnies regardless of how tempting it is. This post isn’t about that. I’m here to talk about denim finishes.
There was a time earlier this year we sourced about 12 printed-embroided denim jeans from 3 quarters to full length and with them flying quickly off shelves you come to realise what people love - stylistic uniqueness. That “there is NO ONE I’m gonna meet who has this”. Of course this I commonsensical but never have I seen it more true in how people interact with denim and how it’s appreciated. Between wash variants, printing types. embroidery usage, graining etc etc. it’s easy to realise why denim has the prominence it does on finishing alone. It’s something I’ve found myself tripping over for a while but the sick thing is the store opens you up to your peers in style. A nerdy link up.
I remember a time last year I waffled about these jeans I had at the time tripping about the graining saying “if y’all don’t buy these today I’m chowing them for good” and then none other than told me “nah cuz, run me dat one” cuz homie knew the gospel. Mind you they fit me like a glove and Joel was at least 6 inches smaller in waist than me. Still, HE HAD TO HAVE THEM. Shape and colour are 2/3D affairs but FINISH??? We talking different alphabet.
In your quest to achieve stylistic uniqueness, consider how your garment is finished.
