Chapter 2…
Takudzwa's eyes wandered back to Thandiwe throughout the day.
He saw her in his literature class, where she sat across from him, her eyes sparkling with excitement as they discussed the latest novel.
He saw her in the cafeteria, where she laughed with her friends, her smile lighting up the entire room.
But it wasn't until they bumped into each other at the library that
they finally started talking
"Sorry about that," Takudzwa said, as he helped Thandiwe gather her scattered books.
"No worries, I'm just clumsy sometimes," Thandiwe replied, smiling up at him.
Takudzwa's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. He felt a spark of electricity run through his body, and he knew he was in trouble.
"I'm Takudzwa," he said, holding out his hand
"Thandiwe," she replied, taking his hand in hers.
As they shook hands, Takudzwa felt a sense of calm wash over him. It was as if he had known Thandiwe his entire life, not just a few minutes.
"So, what brings you to the library?" Takudzwa asked, as they walked together to the shelves.
"I'm working on a paper for my literature class," Thandiwe replied. "I'm trying to find some inspiration."
Takudzwa nodded, running his fingers over the spines of the books. "I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I find myself getting stuck, and I need something to spark my creativity."
Thandiwe smiled, her eyes lighting up. "Exactly! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who leels that way.
As they talked, Takudzwa found himself feeling more and more at ease around Thandiwe.
He loved the way she laughed, the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about something she was passionate about.
And as they sat down at a table, surrounded by stacks of books, Takudzwa knew that he wanted to spend more time with
Thandiwe. He wanted to get to know her better, to see if there was something more between them.
But as they delved into their studies, Takudzwa couldn't shake the feeling that they were from different worlds. Thandiwe was Ndebele, and he was Shona.
Would their differences tear them apart, or could they find a way to bridge the gap between them?
Only time would tell.
As the days went by, Takudzwa and Thandiwe grew closer, bonding over their shared love of literature and music. They
would spend hours talking, laughing, and exploring the campus
together.
But despite their growing connection, Takudzwa couldn't shake the feeling that they were living in a bubble. Outside of their little world, the tensions between the Shona and Ndebele students were still simmering.
One day, as they were walking across campus, they stumbled upon a group of Shona students harassing a Ndebele student. The boy was cowering, his eyes wide with fear, as the Shona students taunted him.
Takudzwa's instincts told him to step in, to defend the boy against the bullies. But Thandiwe grabbed his arm, holding him back.
"Don't," she whispered urgently. "It's not worth it."
Takudzwa hesitated, torn between his desire to protect the boy and his fear of escalating the situation. In the end, he decided to trust Thandiwe's judgment, and they walked away, leaving the bullies to their cruel game…
