Today, we celebrate the 70th birthday of our generations most prominent cellist, Yo-Yo Ma!

🎻 Yo-Yo Ma: A Life in Harmony 🎶

Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma has spent a lifetime showing the world that music is more than performance — it’s connection. Born in Paris to Chinese parents and raised in New York, his journey reflects the universality of art: crossing cultures, generations, and borders.

From Bach’s timeless suites to collaborations with musicians around the globe, Yo-Yo Ma uses his cello as a voice for empathy, peace, and shared humanity. Through projects like the Silkroad Ensemble, he continues to remind us that music has the power to unite — even in a divided world.

Today marks 117 years since the birth of David Fyodorovich Oistrakh, a legendary violinist born in Oddesa, Ukraine. He's one of my top 3 favorite violinists, and his connection to Phillip Violins runs deep. Our owner studied under Taras Krysa, whose father Oleh Krysa was a student of Oistrakh's. We're honored to share this legacy! 🎼✨

Enjoy some fun facts and a clip featuring Oistrakh with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra:

🎻✨ David Oistrakh (1908–1974) – one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Known as the “King of the Violin,” Oistrakh combined flawless technique with a warm, deeply human sound. His interpretations of Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich remain legendary, and he inspired generations of musicians around the world. 🌍

Fun fact: Shostakovich and Khachaturian composed violin concertos specifically for him! 🤟
