WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE NETWORK ISNโT ENOUGH?
A UAV can start a mission with a completely stable cellular connection. But as it flies across different areas, network coverage can change continuously. In some areas, the signal may be strong. In others, it may become weaker or even lose reliable coverage.
As the UAV moves from one cell to another, the connection also needs to hand over between cells. During this process, latency or packet loss can occur, and in some cases, the connection may be briefly interrupted. For a BVLOS mission where C2, telemetry, and video need to remain available, even a short interruption can affect the operation.
The challenge becomes even more noticeable when the UAV is transmitting high resolution video. The more data the video carries, the more traffic the cellular link needs to handle. When the network becomes weak or congested, video can lag, frames can drop, and the stream can become unstable, while C2 and telemetry still need to be maintained.
So if a UAV relies on only one network, what happens when that network no longer provides enough coverage or performance for the mission?
What if another network was available when you needed it? That is the challenge XBStation is approaching from a new direction.
Something new is coming.
