What is the Feast of Pentecost?

The feast of Holy Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after His Glorious Resurrection. On this Great Feast, the Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles, and the miraculous tongues of fire appeared above each one of them. This fulfilled the Lord’s promise to them, so they may be filled with the Holy Spirit, and preach the Gospel in all languages. And thus, the Apostles spread themselves among all corners of the earth to proclaim that Jesus who is risen as Christ, is the only Lord and King!

By the intercessions of the Holy Apostles, O Christ our God, have mercy of us! Amen.

What is the Feast of Ascension?

The feast of Our Lord’s Ascension is celebrated 40 days after His Glorious Resurrection. When His earthly mission was completed, He ascended into Heaven accompanied by two angels. His disciples noted that "He was lifted up before their eyes in a cloud which took Him from their sight" (Acts 1:9). Before His ascent, he took His disciples to the Mount of Olives, and instructed them to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). This was Christ’s last appearance on earth, until His glorious Second Coming!

O Christ our God, Who didst ascend in glory, have mercy on us! Amen.
