Thanks to Mamamokum Handwoven for the lovely photo showing the Warping Square loaded with natty silk yarn and a beautiful cross.

When I was initially designing the Square, I wanted to use Gowdey Reeds for the combs. The problem was weight. Gowdey combs were significantly heavier than LeClerc. So for the past 6 years I have been kind of making do with LeClerc. Their tolerances are pretty rough but up until about 6 months ago I have generally been able to make them work (with a little shaving / grinding). Something changed and now about 50% of my last order could not be made compatible. I had been toying around with comb designs for years as I wanted something lighter, but had come up with nothing that was economically viable to produce. Necessity being the mother of invention, I left the traditional form factor behind and have developed "card combs." They are cut on a laser from a sheet of delrin and bead blasted to a smooth finish. They weigh only 12 grams saving 36 grams in weight over the Leclerc. That may not seem like much, but it is a HUGE reduction in rotational weight.

Tug is now available for pre-order on our website!

Thanks to everyone for supporting our Kickstarter campaign we were able to sell and make 49 TUG's. We are ready to make more! We've decided to take pre-orders with a shipping date of March 15. The Kickstarter taught us that it takes a bit longer to make than we thought, and also that it costs a bit more than we anticipated! (doesn't everything?!) We were hoping to have a retail price at or below $500, but that's just not possible. Retail price will be $550. Deadline for March pre-orders is Feb 15.

TUG is a motorized ball winder that winds yarn into balls (cakes.) Useful for knitters, weavers, yarn dyers and other fiber artists.

The first 20 Tug's are being mailed out today!

Looking for a Louet Erica? We have some available! They are enroute to us now.

We had a chance to try them out at the Midwest Weavers conference and demo it at the New England Weavers Seminar this summer. It's a great little loom!

During the prototype process Mitch and I would discuss things and often sketch them out. Sawyer took it upon herself to make a full sketch of TUG. She did a few versions. She really captured the whimsy and feel of working with fiber.

I love it so much we did a custom engraving of it on the TUG that will live with us. This is our top plate! (the rest of them will just have the TUG logo on them.)
