Bookmarked in York Sharing the places, stories, treasures, and hidden gems of York, PA and beyond. Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet!

As an indie author, I understand how hard it is to be seen, which is why I spotlight small businesses and introduce you to new places to shop, eat, and explore. I’m a York-based author who loves highlighting Pennsylvania places and the businesses and people that make our community shine. As a small-business owner and indie book publisher, I know how tough it is to be seen—so this page exists to sp

otlight the shops, makers, and hidden gems that lift up York and surrounding areas. Some will be longtime favorites; others I hope will be new to you. Stick around for smiles, local eats and adventures, and the occasional new story (and gift!) to take home.

Begin your day with an “I get to” mentality instead of an “I have to” mindset.

I GET to go to work.
I GET to have a busy day.
I GET to run errands, clean my home or tackle whatever the day may bring.

We often disguise our opportunities as stress when, in reality, many of them are blessings.

Yesterday’s storm left some people in Columbia and surrounding areas waking up to a completely different reality today. The everyday stresses and ordinary things they may have once taken for granted suddenly look very different.

It’s a powerful reminder to take nothing for granted, appreciate the ordinary moments and be thankful for what we have. ❤️

A friend of mine just said they believe a tornado went by their house in Columbia and damaged buildings. Anyone else get anything with these storms? We only had heavy rains and that’s about it.

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another BIY Small Business Spotlight! ✨

This week, we’re following our noses to one of the newest additions to Downtown York: RELIQ! Located at 110 East King Street . 🥰❤

I recently stopped by their new Downtown York location and had the pleasure of meeting owner and perfumer Noel, along with her mom. They were both so welcoming and kind, and I loved learning more about this unique shop—and the art and science behind what they do.

RELIQ is a natural perfumery where fragrance becomes much more personal than simply choosing a bottle off the shelf.
And there really IS science behind those scents!

Noel has a PhD in the biosciences and a background in research, but she’s also an artist and designer. She brings those worlds together through her approach to fragrance, using creativity and chemistry to develop unique, natural compositions.

One of the coolest things RELIQ offers is the opportunity to create your own fragrance! During the Fragrance Creation experience, you work with Noel to develop a custom scent of your own. So instead of wandering around smelling bottle after bottle trying to find “the one,” you can actually help create it!

RELIQ also offers Bespoke Fragrance Development, in which Noel designs a custom fragrance specifically for an individual or even an organization.

And if you’re curious about how perfumery actually works, you can take the Intro to Perfumery experience and learn more about the fascinating world of fragrance creation.

The Downtown York shop is still evolving, too! Noel plans to feature artists’ work on the walls, and the upstairs space will eventually be used for classes and other experiences. She’ll share more information about those plans on the RELIQ website as they develop.

I love finding businesses that bring something completely different to our area, and a perfumery where science, creativity and scent all come together definitely qualifies!
So, if you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could find a perfume that smells like ME,” maybe it’s time to stop searching for it—and create it instead. ❤️

Welcome to Downtown York, RELIQ!

I meet some of the sweetest people ❤️

One of the loveliest surprises of opening RELIQ in York has been the people who wander through the door.

A shop can be a place to buy things, of course, but I’ve always looked at RELIQ as something more: a little place of curiosity and conversation, where you might come in because something in the window caught your eye and leave having shared a story, discovered a scent, or made a new friend.

I’ve already met some wonderful humans here, and I’m so grateful for the warmth, curiosity, and welcome. It’s beginning to feel less like moving a shop and more like a reunion. 🌱

Here’s to new friendships, unexpected conversations, and all the people we haven’t met yet. 💚

So today we went to SugarRush-Sweet & Snack Expo (which I will be posting more about later this weekend). While there, on Corinda's Cakery table was this display. It has two cakes and the rest are the actual vegetables!

Her work is incredible!

Which two do you think are the cakes?

If you are able to show Apricity Products some love this week, they would appreciate it! Please take a moment to read their post I’m sharing.

this is one of those posts i really hate making, but small business is real life + sometimes real life is.. rude. 🫠

our business bank card was unfortunately hacked + hit with huge fraudulent charges that pretty much wiped us out.

we’ve of course reported everything + we’re waiting on the bank to issue a credit, but we’ve been told that process could take over a week. + when you’re a small business during the slow back-to-school season, a week without access to that money is a really long week.

so, if you’ve been thinking about stopping in, grabbing a gift card, placing an order, stocking up on candles, looking for a gift, booking the candle bar, or just treating yourself to something, we could honestly use the extra love right now. 🤍 our doors + website is always open for ya.

we’ll be okay. it’s just incredibly frustrating to work so hard to keep a small business moving forward + have something completely outside of your control knock you backwards overnight, literally. huge punch in the gut.

no pity party over here. just being transparent about where we’re at + asking our little community to show up for us >if you’re able< because i know it’s hard out here for us all right now!

every purchase, share, comment + “hey, go check out apricity” genuinely matters right now + always!!

+ apparently supporting small is kinda chic anyway? that’s what i heard idk 🌿

Who’s going to SugarRush – Sweet & Snack Expo this weekend?! 🍭🍫🍬

We’ll be there tomorrow and I can’t wait!

Of course, my back decided yesterday would be the perfect time to give out on me. 🙄 And I don’t even have a good story to go with it. No daring rescue. No extreme sports. Nothing. 🙄

So I’ll probably be sporting a very fashionable back brace and moving a little slower than I’d planned, but I’m not letting that stop me!

I’m ready to check out all the sweets, snacks, vendors and whatever other deliciousness SugarRush has waiting for us. 🍪🍿🍩

Who else is going?! And more importantly…what should I make sure I don’t miss? 👀🍭
