BIG PROPS to Lincoln High in Tacoma!
From Peter Briggs directly: On Friday, we learned that Lincoln’s Varsity Drumline was selected as a Featured Performance Ensemble for the 2027 Music Education Conference in Yakima. This is an incredibly prestigious honor, only given to a few band, choir, or orchestra groups from around the state. It’s essentially winning STATE LEVEL recognition from the Music Education Association. I don’t know that a drumline has ever been selected, and I’m incredibly proud that we’ll be bringing a non-traditional ensemble highlighting our diverse and talented students. It will be an amazing state-wide recognition of Tacoma’s best.
Today, we had the Drumline competition at Decatur High School. Both Lincoln’s Varsity and Jr. Varsity drumlines competed. Lincoln ended up sweeping the event with EVERY AWARD given: 1st place overall, Best Snare Section, Best Bass Section, Best Tenor Section, and Best Cymbal Section. I’ve never seen that happen at a competition before!! It’s a true testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of these students. Even more – you watch them perform, and you see their JOY. I was incredibly proud of how they represented themselves, encouraging the other ensembles, starting games for all during downtime, and building friendships with the other schools. It was a great day.
