I am a seller on the Etsy e-commerce platform, and I’ve heard many stories from other sellers about refunds being issued without seller approval and scammers taking advantage of the system. Unfortunately, today I experienced that firsthand.
I became the victim of what I believe was theft. I fulfilled the customer’s order exactly as requested, ensuring every item matched the descriptions and photos listed in my shop. My shop policies are clearly posted and available for all buyers to review. The package was delivered on time, and the customer even sent photos confirming that all items were included and matched what was advertised.
Despite this, the buyer opened a case against me and received a full refund through Etsy while also keeping all of the merchandise. Etsy did not contact me to discuss the case or allow me to provide evidence before making their decision.
What makes this even more concerning is that the buyer was previously an Etsy seller herself and appeared to understand the loopholes within the system.
