If you see these particular spiders, just know that they are the good spiders, do not kill them. They are eating the bugs and things that we do not like.
When my older boys were growing up, we named every single one of them Charlotte and it was a sure sign that fall was right around the corner.
That is a yellow garden spider, most likely an Argiope aurantia — also called a black-and-yellow garden spider.
🕷️ A few interesting things about it:
* Not considered dangerous to people. Its bite is uncommon and generally causes only mild local irritation.
* The striking yellow-and-black pattern is characteristic.
* The thick white zigzag pattern down the center of the web is called a stabilimentum.
* They are actually beneficial garden residents because they catch lots of flies, moths, grasshoppers, and other insects.
* They commonly appear in gardens and around vegetation in late summer.
That is a beautiful specimen and an especially impressive web!
