We're pouring today from 3pm to 6pm: Celeste Verdejo with peach rings, Laroche Chablis with pineapple gummy bears, Volpaia Chianti Classico with strawberry Twizzlers, and Grgich Hills Cabernet with dark chocolate sea-salt caramels. Sommelier Gavin Trepeta is leading the tasting. Free to taste, and costumes are encouraged. Stop on by after work or on your way to a party. 151 Woodbury Rd, Woodbury. Must be 21 or older.

Our w**e of the week is Librandi's Duca Sanfelice Riserva, from Cirò in Calabria, the toe of Italy's boot. It's made from Gaglioppo, a grape you don't see often and worth a try. We picked it because it's a "pause and savor" bottle: tart cherry and cranberry first, then a touch of resin and a spicy finish. Open it with eggplant parmigiana or pasta with spicy tomato sauce and pancetta. Find it at 151 Woodbury Rd.

Say it with me: Boekenhoutskloof. That's BOOK-en-HOATS-kloof, and it means the ravine of the Cape beech trees. It's the South African w**ery behind The Chocolate Block, a red blend from the Swartland. Hard to say, easy to drink. It's on our shelf now at W**e Tonite, 151 Woodbury Road.

Screw cap means cheap w**e? Not at all. It's a choice the w**emaker makes for the style of w**e. A screw cap seals tight and locks in the fresh, fruity side of w**es made to enjoy young, like crisp whites and rosé. Cork lets a tiny bit of air through over the years, so many w**emakers still choose it for reds meant to age. Different tools for different w**es.

In 1976, a blind tasting in Paris put Napa on the map. French judges picked a California white and a California red over the best of France. The white was Chateau Montelena. The red was a Cabernet from Stag's Leap W**e Cellars. Their Artemis Cabernet is on our shelf now, right next to the Grgich Hills. Stop by W**e Tonite at 151 Woodbury Road.

W**e words: tannin (say it TAN-in). It's the dry, grippy feeling a red leaves on your tongue and gums, and it comes from grape skins, seeds and stems, and from oak barrels. Like it big? Try Cabernet Sauvignon or Nebbiolo. Prefer it gentle? Pinot Noir or Gamay. A steak or a hard cheese softens it.

This week's pick is Le Petit Renard from Famille Coulon, a certified organic red from the Southern Rhône. It's mostly Grenache, with Syrah and a little Cinsault: bold and juicy, with ripe cherry and a lively spice. If you like a good Côtes du Rhône, you'll feel right at home. Give it a slight chill and open it with a Margherita pizza.
