This lovely ballerina from came in this morning for a - her old shoes were breaking a tad low but she had also outgrown them. After trying on all the shoes, she decided on the .america RC10. Dancers - try on all the shoes! Different brands and models are changing all the time… just like your feet!

During the busy back to school time, you may find our fitting appointments full. It’s always best to try to find an appointment, but we always accept walk-ins and always have expert fitters available 7 days a week (you just might have to wait a little without an appointment).

- common questions:

1. How long will a pointe shoe fitting last? You should always allow for an hour. Sometimes fittings go faster, especially if the dancer knows what they want and maybe has a few tweaks, but most of the time, we want to try on as many shoes as possible to find that perfect fit. This photo shows just a fraction of the shoes tried on by one dancer after the fitting.

2. Will you know what shoe I need by looking at my feet? Yes and no. All of us at Liesl Dancewear have spent our lives around pointe shoes. We are former professional dancers and teachers that can make good educated guesses. We can look at a foot and have a good starting point - but never stop there. Often, wearing what is “wrong”, especially for new dancers, helps to feel what is right.

3. Can I ask questions? Oh please do! We love to educate our dancers and parents during fittings. The more you speak up, the more we can help! Dancers are often trained to be respectful which can mean be quiet and not speak. During a pointe shoe fitting, you should share what you are feeling and request things… the collaborative nature allows for a better fit!

4. Should I only try one brand of shoes? No! Try all the shoes! We pride ourselves in stocking as many pointe shoes as we can and constantly sourcing new options for our community. Trying a variety of brands and styles is the best way to find what works for you.

5. Once I find a shoe, will I always wear that one? Not necessarily. Feet change as the dancer grows and develops. Sometimes manufacturers change or discontinue things, and sometimes, change is just good. New options may not have been available when you first tried shoes!

Have you had a chance to try R-Class Pointe Shoes? These lovely dancers from The Russell School of Ballet all chose R-Class USA for their first pair today and all three have very different feet!

1. CL80 - the next generation of Entrada Pro. They are very tapered with a lovely u-shape throat.

2. CL60 - Next generation Encore. Slightly tapered with a slight bulb through the metatarsal, they have a higher crown than the pleatless varieties offered by R-Class.

3. CL90 - Next generation Muse. A nicely squared box that run wider than other versions but don’t look bulky!

All of these shoes come in three different shank hardnesses which allows a great customized fit. (All three of these dancers also have a different shank strength).

We just love being able to offer a wide variety of brands and styles to get the best fit possible! These new shoes have been a wonderful addition to our store and we are so grateful to our customers and wonderful schools and teachers that trust us for such an important task of finding the perfect fit!

Two age groups can enter, 12 and under and 13 and up.

Sometimes change is good! Katelyn from Fredericksburg Ballet. Centre came in tonight to replace her hard to find shoes and took a chance on trying some new shoes out! You can see such a difference in the Nikolay World Smartpointe over her old shoes by the way they are lifting her up and covering the side of her foot better.

The goal for a well fitted is to fight against gravity and lift higher out of the shoe without “sinking”. You should feel more pressure along the sides and less on your big toe. When the shoe is too wide or boxy for your foot shape, it will not support you laterally, letting your weight slide into the shoe. This creates a ripple effect in your technique: sinking into the shoe makes it easier to shorten the hip flexors and stick the rear out and open the rib cage. Often dancers think they want a large platform for better balance, but often a shoe that is more streamlined is more supportive and helps with balance.

Don’t be afraid to try new things! are still harder to find with the effects of the pandemic, inflation, and the war. We have lots of options - with more growing all the time - that might surprise you and get a better fit!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

2022 has been our busiest year since opening 7 years ago and we are so grateful to our customers! This recital season has created challenges of supply chain issues, vendor price increases, and of course those hard to find pointe shoes! So happy to have been able to serve our dance community and make this year’s recital season a hit!
