Been kind of tied up with projects so have not added anything here in a while but some cool stuff.

custom framing is about saving art but also about preserving family history. These three portraits of family members from over a hundred years ago are important as fine art examples and to the contributions the people made to the history of area they are from in New York state.

When I went to assess the condition of the items The frames had suffered alot from poor storage The genteman had some damage to the paint which I was able to restore and they all needed cleaned.

Since my client is leaving them in her will to the museum that has requested them we wanted to keep them as original as we could. The oval spandrel frame had suffered the least with some chipped whiting and the compo missing on the outer frame. I added a moulding on top of this and blended the finish to match the aged finish of the frame.

The frames for the two larger painting were quite a state of deteriation. as you can see in the before photos. I check with a very talented company as to redoing them and it was possible but as it would be between $4000.00 and $6000.00 to do we went with new frames that complement the coloring and time of the paintings.We have prepared the old frames to be stored properly so they may be restored at some future date if someone feels the need.

This is a tailored look but the rich finish on the frame gives it class. Looking forward to my client picking it up thin...

been kind of busy so a bit behind on posting.

When clients come come in with something special in their mind you can't always go to the sample wall and pull sometingoff for them. here are a few examples.

The still life the customer wanted it somewhat rustic and pick up on the orange from the artwork as it went well with her decor. She also wanted the overall tone to match the fininsh on the wood panleing and built in cabinets in the room, so she brought in a drawer for me. I milled the moulding to a nice shape but left some chater marks and defecfects to give it an aged look.

The leaded glass item had been made by the client for a door in a built in cabinet in her home that they had sold. She nreplaced it with a plain glass and wanted it so that she could hang it in their winter home out west. I milled the frame out of red oak and gave it a rubbed black finish for a tailored but not too contemporary look.

These two drawings were done as a Father's Day gift. Dad had them framed. ( we covered the names for online safety)
