Have you ever gotten stuck at the airport? I have, it’s not the most fun ever.

I got one more holiday book in before my tree comes down! And I was so happy I read this one.
Holiday Romance is the cutest story of two people, Molly and Andrew, who meet over and over on their yearly flight home to Ireland from Chicago. What started as a coincidental flight with her friend’s (soon to be) ex boyfriend turns into a purposefully planned trip together.
10 years and 10 flights later, their friendship revolves around their yearly trip home, but not much more than texts and the occasional meet up the other 364 days of the year. Even though they live in the same city and they consider each other one of the most important people in their lives.
Then a freak storm cancels their flight and sets off the most home alone-esque fight to get home by any means necessary because Molly HAS to get Andrew, and his annual Christmas sweater, home for Christmas.

Finished my month strong with 10 books! And for the first time ever, my audio percentage was higher than the other formats.
Also, I completed my reading challenge for the year and hit 85 books! Assistant to the Villain was the one that pushed me over. Not quite sure what to do now. So we’re gonna see how far past 85 I go so I can use that as a benchmark for next year’s goal.

✨Book 85 of 85✨

⚔️Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer ⚔️

This was a great book to complete my challenge with! I loved it.

“ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem and terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.”

Evie desperately needs a job. Then a random mishap lands her with a job offer from Rennedawn’s most infamous villain. She says yes and finds herself in the employ of a broody and dangerous man who has his sights set on basically pi***ng the King off at every chance.
But just as she is getting used to her job, and a new brew (coffee… hello), a suspected spy threatens to take down then entire operation from the inside out.

I saw someone describe this as a fairy tale meets The Office and it is the most accurate thing ever. This book cracked me up. The dialogue between The Villain and Evie is top notch.
But I could never figure out what exactly they do!! “You’re making a mockery of the work we do here!” What do you even do, Becky?! And yes, her name is Becky 😂

This was so very enjoyable and I can’t wait for book 2!

I hit my 85 book reading goal for the year! Last year I made it by the skin of my teeth with 75 books. This time I have like 3 months to spare and I did 10 more books! 📚

I have found some incredible authors through this and kind of let some of these books become my personality (ahem… Fourth Wing).

Now let’s see how many I complete before we hit 2024! 🎉

✨Book 82 of 85✨

Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare

This week has been a doozy! I’ve been down with an ear infection, my daughter injured herself, another kid with a cold… plus starting a long term substitute teaching gig on top of all that! But I spent as much time as I could listening to this book because I was hooked!
This is book 2 of the Final Hours series which is a prequel to the Shadowhunters series. I mean, this world is a whole saga and if you haven’t jumped into it I highly recommend it.

First of all… this is a 23 hour audiobook. That’s insane. But did I finish it in 5 days? Yep. Which is CRAZY.
Fenty Williams does such an amazing job with these books. Her accent is perfect since these take place at the Edwardian London.

Cordelia Carstairs is living our everyone of her dreams. She is engaged to the boy she has loved practically her whole life, James Herondale. She is now sisters with her best friend Lucie and she is a Shadowhunter.
But that is overshadowed by the fact that this is a marriage a lie, with the purpose to protect her reputation, while James is in love with Grace Blackthorne. There is also a killer loose in London, killing Shadowhunters and then disappearing.

Now Cordelia and James, along with Lucie and the rest of the Merry Thieves must find the killer while keeping all their secrets close to their chests.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. There are so many characters but they are so good together.
It’s a great blend between fantasy and historical fiction. Vampires, demons, warlocks, shadowhunters, nephelim, ghosts, and fey. This whole world and it’s multiple series are YA and a lot of fun.

𝐈. 𝐀𝐦. 𝐀. 𝐖𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐤.

Frickin Abby. Running me through the ENTIRE gamut of emotions in one book. Giddy, sad, frustrated, happy, devastated… I am unwell. But do i recommend this book? 100%. Without a doubt. Will I read it again?
Abso-frickin-lutely. I am definitely rating as one of my top reads for the year.

Kristen doesn’t need anybody. She doesn’t have time for men who don’t get her. And she has a secret that she can handle all on her own. She’s about to undergo a procedure that will leave her unable to have children.
But her best friend is getting married and she meets the best man and he is everything she will not admit she wants. He GETS her. He doesn’t get offended by her sarcasm, makes sure she is fed before she gets hangry, not to mention funny and incredibly good looking. But he wants a big family, so no matter what she feels she has to keep him as just a friend. For his own good. Their feelings toward each other don’t matter, but it gets harder and harder to say no.

✨Book 81 of 85✨

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

I’m really enjoying audiobooks. I love being able to get done things that I need to get done and still be able to get a book in.
I know that my fellow audiobook lovers will agree with me that a narrator can make or break a book. And Patti Murin made this book. She read it so well I got sucked in.

Hannah Brooks is used to not being noticed. Her job as an Executive Protection Agent (bodyguard) makes her used to blending in. And now she’s been hired to protect one of the most noticeable movie superstars in the industry, Jack Stapleton, from a crazed, corgi-loving stalker.
When Jack’s mom gets sick, he travels to their ranch in Houston. The only kicker is he doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker.
That’s how Hannah finds herself with the role of a lifetime… Jack’s fake girlfriend.
But the more time she spends on the ranch with Jack and his family the more she finds Jr hard to separate pretend from reality.

Like all great fake dating books, I frickin love when they start catching feelings. This book is a closed door, clean romance that is worth every moment.

✨Book 77 of 85✨

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐫 by 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐦

This was a book that my best friend sent me because she saw a Tik Tok about it. I checked this joker out so fast!
It is set in an Egyptian inspired land and this whole book feels like a mix between Throne of Glass and Hunger Games. The book started strong and ended strong with a few strong parts in the middle but there were some parts I struggled to get through just because it’s SO MUCH information. And really really long. A lot of names of people and places and events that all kind of mingled (like wait are they talking about a person or a holiday? I’m confused)

Ten years ago, the kingdom of Jasad was burned, it’s royal family all killed, and the magic that the Jasadis have outlawed. Sylvia is the Heir of Jasad but she never wants to be found. But a group of Jasadis are tracked to their village and Sylvia’s magic is seen by the one person she cannot afford to see it, the Nazahl Heir. So now, in order to stay alive, she makes a bargain and becomes Arin’s Champion in a deadly and complex game. But making it even more dangerous, he has no idea he has found the last Heir of Jasad, and she must try to keep it that way.

I liked this book for the most part, and if you like politically driven fantasy you probably will too. But apparently it’s not my jam. Which sucks because I really wanted to love it!

How to Honeymoon Alone by Olivia Hayle

This was one of those books that has been in the slew of KU ads on Facebook. I think I have downloaded like 8 books because of those ads. This is why my TBR will outlive me! Because adorable books like this keep popping up and so I have to download them.

☀️Eden cancelled her wedding when her fiancé cheats on her. But she is not about to give up her dream honeymoon, so she packs her bag, and her trusty guidebook and goes on her tropical honeymoon solo. She is there to relax, read, and drown herself in fruity cocktails.
But on her first night a grumpy business man, Phillip Meyer, interjects himself in her dining reservation and seats himself at her table. The audacity. From then on she finds herself frequently bumping into him and eventually brusque hellos turn into midnight swims and excursions planned for two.
They find camaraderie in being there for the exact same reason. But every vacation has to end, and what will become of them when their two weeks is up? ☀️

This book was so cute. I love Eden’s sunshine personality combined with Philip’s grumpy workaholic self. They developed this unlikely friendship based on their mutual heartbreak. I mean what are the odds of finding someone on what was supposed to be it their honeymoon and they’re alone, just like you?

Have you vacationed anywhere tropical? My sister got married in Baha Mar last year and it was so gorgeous.
