Why does pottery take so long to get out to customers? 🏺✨

The two outer pieces in this picture were made a week ago and are finally dry enough to fire. The three on the bottom shelf were made Wednesday and still have several more days of drying ahead of them.

And drying isn’t just a “set it and forget it” process. During that time, pieces need checked several times because thinner areas dry faster than thicker ones. Those thinner sections often need covered with plastic bags to slow them down and help everything dry evenly. Uneven drying can lead to cracks, and if a piece is fired before it is completely dry, it can literally blow up in the kiln.

I also try to wait until I have 12–20 pieces ready for a bisque firing so I’m not heating up this giant, blazing hot kiln for only a few items.

So when you break it down:✨ 1–2 hours to create a piece✨ Around a week (sometimes longer) to dry✨ A full day for the bisque firing✨ A couple more days to glaze enough work for the next load✨ And another full day for the glaze firing

Pottery is definitely not instant—but every stage matters to make sure your piece comes out strong, beautiful, and made to last 🤍

Just before this picture, I picked up the cow to move it and the head fell off and smashed onto the floor 😅 Clearly I didn’t have it attached as well as I thought! Luckily, it was an easy fix.

This is my last Highland cow order for now! I’ve been so blessed by the amount of orders these little cows have received. 🐮

I love a challenge. I had 30 min to sculpt out a turtle, something I’ve never made before . Finished it in 25 min . It’s not done but it’s a nice start🐢🌸

These three pieces waiting patiently for me to get more done so they can be fired and out to their new owners 😅.

Brought my clay to the shed so I could giggle at Austin teaching Annabelle to ride mow while I sculpted my manatee. These are the good days 😊.
