“Hey Woody, they’ve got your book!” Woody is the first non-speaking autistic graduate of UCLA and he recently completed his MFA at Columbia University. He lives in California with his family & was visiting friends who have a house in Windham. Upward Bound is his first novel and offers an illuminating chronicle from inside the works of adult daycare for so-called disabled adults, many of whom cannot speak. Moments like this…watching Woody sign his book with such pride which his parents weren’t expecting to find in a tiny bookstore in upstate NY and explaining that we carry it because Windham is home to the NO words to know that would happen when I decided to open a bookstore-pure magic! 💫
