My favorite Martin burst (Rich here). This is a 1932 Martin OM-18. This era’s sunbursts were one of a kind. They were soft and warm with a subtle gradient. And the natural fading of the colors after 90 years adds to the uniqueness. In this era, they were mentioned as “dark tops” or “shaded tops”. Now this is called an “ambertone” sunburst - or simply an “ambertone”.

Mike drove in from North Carolina with his wife and son for his killer 1946 Martin D-18 and sweet 1938 Martin 00-18! His son, Rowen, got to bang on the Gretsch drum set in the studio! His wife, Jen, got to listen to geeky guitar talk! 🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂

Lots of beauties on the bench right now! 😍😍😍

Wow! What a gem of a guitar! Brandon and his daughter Anna drove in today from Virginia to pick up this family treasure. It’s a 1938 Recording King Carson Robison Model K made by Gibson. Brandon’s grandfather Christopher bought it in 1938 as a Montgomery Ward mail order for less than $10 dollars - and this was after a lot of cutting wood on a farm for the extra cash. The family story goes that not long after getting it, Christopher accidentally dropped the guitar while bicycling. Since then, it went through many attempts at repairs - never to really come back to life in a way that it deserved. Brandon brought it to us in a very serious state of disrepair. It was challenging to repair and restore it - but we knew the potential from when we assessed it. It plays and sounds dreamy! Besides the appearance that may seem rough, this beauty will live on for a very very long time! It was a huge pleasure giving this family treasure some Brotherly loving! Enjoy Brandon! And thanks Anna for singing that beautiful song! ❤️

Removing some rosewood bridgeplates today. The one on the right actually had two extra thinner bridgeplates glued to it!

This is Mike and his spectacular 1957 Gibson J-45 after some Brotherly loving! Mike got the call to bring it in for the bench after the “not-so-famous wait time”, he literally left Florida to personally drive it here, it spent a few weeks on the bench, he got the call to pick it up, and then he literally left Florida to personally drive and pick it up! He lives in Virginia - so it wasn’t a straight drive! 😂😂 Anyway… What an amazing example of a ‘57 J-45! ☑️ originality ☑️ honest wear but not abused ☑️ playability ☑️ sound ☑️ cool factor

Been a while! Dave had a birthday! Dave is now a grandfather for the first time! I (Rich) was back and forth to North Carolina! Spring is beautifully springing here in Pennsylvania! And we’re busy on the bench every day! Here’s two 1946 Martin D-18 beauties after some Brotherly loving. They sound very different by the way. Happy Spring! 🌼🌸🌺☀️☀️☀️
