In 2015 Rolling Stone Magazine proclaimed DOWNTOWN BOYS “America’s most exciting punk band” and in May of 2026 the magazine included a DOWNTOWN BOYS record in their list of the greatest punk albums of all time (going as far back as “proto-punk” bands from the 1960s). On June 26th Sub Pop Records will release the new DOWNTOWN BOYS LP and the band has decided to celebrate with a show right here in their “hometown” of Willimantic. As local DOWNTOWN BOYS fans know, they were based in Providence when they started out but played shows at Willimantic Records often enough to take to calling our little city their hometown. DOWNTOWN BOYS will be joined on June 26th by CT bands THE PROBLEM WITH KIDS TODAY and HAPPY GIANT. It’s a fundraiser for the Covenant Soup Kitchen with tickets available now online (link in comments). An in person ticket purchasing option will be announced later in the week.
