Over the past few days the electrical conduits have been replaced underground and progress is moving along. We are still without power, phones or internet. We are hoping to be back in the office on Monday. Updates will be provided. Thank you.

We are temporarily closed due to a power failure caused by an underground fire last night. We have no power, no phones and no internet. The lines are being worked on now and we will be back in the office as soon as we can. We will keep you updated. Thank you!

Granite is now tough to come by.

Time for an update about this crazy industry and the changes that are happening for us.

Globally we will never be the same. Containers filled with granite and monuments coming from India and China have been sitting in ports for months on end. The cost to ship those containers has gone from $3,000. when they were filled to as much as $18,000. and continue to increase as they sit there idle. It's crazy. So the orders are being cancelled.

For the manufactures to produce these same creations in country for us; the cost at a minimum has DOUBLED. The 3M factory where we get our essential stencil is closing. Without stencil, the work as we know it cannot be done. Someone else will fill that void, but like anything else; they will be able to put whatever price on they want and we will have to pay it.

Fuel prices are obviously too high for all of us and all other necessary supplies and equipment are either on back order OR rising daily as far as cost.

We have held off increasing the pricing to our customers...but not sure how long we can hold out. We can hope for the best and stay hopefully that things will level off and go back to normal... but if this is the new normal then the Spring of 2022 things may have to change.

It is time for me to make a post to explain the overwhelming work load this industry world wide is experiencing. Most of the granite/monument delays are due to the backlash of COVID in places like India and China. Containers carrying granite have been sitting in ports for months waiting to get through customs and released to come to the US. What used to be a 4 month time frame is now a 6-9 month time frame to receive these goods.

As far as the local work such as cemetery lettering which has far exceeded any known year in the recent past; our time frames have gone from a 30-45 day wait to a 3-4 month time frame and that's if the weather cooperates. If there is rain and high humidity the stones are wet and cannot be sandblasted. Once the weather turns cold and the stones do not sustain a certain temperature, they cannot be sandblasted. Thus, I am explaining to families on a daily basis why their work has not been done yet. The majority of people are understanding, but some could care less what the explanation is and are not very kind at all.

Please share this information with your friends and families, and know that we are trying our absolute best to fulfill everyone's needs and expectations. This is a process that I am proud to guide people through, but I am overwhelmed with the disheartening phone calls.

We all at Custom Monument Designs would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July. We will be closing the shop this afternoon and will enjoy a much needed break. We will return on Monday!!!!!
