We made some great things this week with our freshly harvested farm goodness! These have always been a hit for our farm to table supporters and it’s always great to bring in a FRESH batch of goodness. We’ll be harvesting more garden goodness later today. Stay tuned for our creations.

The final count will be in later. I can create a safe place for them to farrow in and at the end of the day they go where they go. Vultures have been coming by so we’ll definitely be putting a covering over Priddy and her babies for sun protection as well as predator protection. Congrats Priddy! No stillborns, no issues. Healthy momma and healthy litter. Woo hoo. Blessed is this farm today!

I’m expecting to come home to Pig Wing Priddy’s litter today!
Her offspring are not only beautiful, but amazing in size as well. This litter is going out as farm to table and is being bred for that great size Meishan we’ve seen in a couple of our lines. She takes after her father and definitely carries his genetics well. (Odd Bird Earl). Her last offspring got to 300 # at 6 months on another amazing farm that was definitely doing things right and her daughter is also in the Phoenix Zoo! We knew right away when Priddy was born that she was a keeper. Big lady with long ears, great socks, and wrinkles I could get lost in. She’s continued to be an asset to our farm so here’s to hoping I come home in the next day or 2 to a beautiful litter of Meishan piglets from her. The sire to this litter also sired an amazing litter last year where size was all the rave without losing the beauty and temperament. (Meishan Preservation Goose). At that same amazing farm his offspring made it to over 300 # at 6 months. I do contribute a lot of that size to the momma of that litter, but I’d be silly to think Goose didn’t bring so much to the table as well. So, here’s to hoping we can really get some great things to our farm to table clients as well as our farm can get what’s needed for our community. Pics and videos will come soon!

This has been on my mind because I am from Tx and travel home frequently and I’ve transported our Meishan piglets to Texas a good amount of times and even have plans to meet with livestock in Texas again soon. It’s my LIMITED understanding that I cannot bring livestock into Texas right now. I plan to look into everything with great detail soon. This country eradicated them once before and I’m banking on it to be done again. It’s also my understanding that this could potentially be the most detrimental to wildlife unfortunately. Right as I’m mulling this situation over and thinking about it here comes the AMBA with some great information from Dr. Max Rothschild. Purple Martin houses will be in every field for every pig on our farm. We will continue to inspect our animals daily. We will pay extra close attention to farrowing and we may move the pigs to an indoor/barn farrowing area if needed (if this were to progress beyond TX). We feel farrowing time would be our biggest threat. Watch those Meishan ears Tx breeders. They seem to get the most scratches on our farm.

Ear tagging complete. The way I do tagging is what works for me. Different litters get differing colors and different ears. If I’ve got a few litters born around the same time then only 2 litters get tagged and the 3rd litter is not tagged. There’s a good reason…they can rip out or have their ear tags fall off. We find it uncommon, but has happened and if we get them mixed up then we have to send off for testing if we’re selling breeders. So, this is the method that works for us and we tag the 3rd one when they are leaving. Quick & simple. If you’re out with your pigs daily (actually in the enclosure with them) I find they trust you more and it’s a whole lot easier when needed.

We’re excited to see what these wonderful Meishan pigs will bring to this farm.

Loading day & night over here. We’ve got this beautiful Meishan pair going to their forever home. No bad words said and we’re ready to rock n’ roll in the AM and then we are going to celebrate our daughter’s birthday.

We’ve got a BUSY week over here. We’ve got some orders going out. Some being shipped, some being completed for local delivery. We’ve got my new nesting box to put together seems like a small task, but I don’t read directions so I will attempt it 5 times and still have a bag of extra screws left over and then rig it with some weird farm hack. We’ve got the kids in VBS this week which is in the evening which throws the schedule off. We’ve got market, we’ve got a breeding pair going to their new homes and I tell ya, I’m REALLY going to miss the boar that’s heading out. I’ve got some planning to do. I’ve got to take my rental car back and be a farm truck driving mom while my car is getting repaired from my lack of ability to drive, we’ve got lifelong friends in town for a couple more days, my daughter’s birthday, we’ve got a kiddo I’m taking into the doctor tomorrow. To be honest I’m worried he’s got phenomena so prayers for that kiddo would be appreciated, and if that wasn’t enough we’re still building some great areas for our farm animals. Busy busy busy and that’s honestly not all of the schedule and that doesn’t include the things that just pop up. We’re supposed to continue to get some good rain so I’m all for that!

Happy Monday everyone. May your week be productive and off to a great start.

*we had a black bear coming around for a bit. I unfortunately found out it was hit by vehicle and died. I took this pic as I wondered if it was one of its tracks. I forgot I even took it and came across it today.

Today I’m grateful for the rain…as are all the pigs & ducks :)

I’m a sale kind of girl. I love a good sale and I love the opportunity to “save” a plant.
