OPEN HOUSE UPDATE
Our neighbors to the north at College Hill United Methodist Church have graciously allowed us to use their parking lot for the open house Monday 6-8pm so that we can use the parking lot for outdoor seating. Please plan to park in either of the parking lots a block to the north of the bookstore. If you do need to park closer on the street, please do NOT park on the east side of Erie and be careful of blocking driveways. The street is narrow and we want to respect all our neighbors.

For those wondering about the future of the bookstore...

As one of us said so eloquently: "There is no "future" of the bookstore—simply the persistent daily labor and self-gift which we all witnessed Warren do day after day, taking nothing for granted. Warren did not regard us as his employees, and we (unless jokingly) did not regard him as our boss; he was Abba and we were his children. For us, there was never a question whether we would open the store yesterday, or continue with any of our other upcoming plans, and not just because it's what Warren would have wanted us to do, but because our hearts have been conformed, at least somewhat, to his (and further on to Christ's, God willing)."

For those who have been with us since day one, thank you. For those who are just hearing about us now, come and see.

CHANGE IN HOURS WEEK OF MAY 25TH
The bookstore is closed for Memorial Day Monday May 25th. We will be open for the advertised Open House 6-8pm but no regular business hours.
We will close at 6pm on Tuesday May 26th so that everyone can attend Warren's funeral.
We will be closed all day Wednesday May 27th.

Eighth Day Books will hold an open house on Monday May 25th 6-8pm for all those who wish to gather and remember Warren together. Please bring a drink or snack to share.

Services for Warren are as follows:
Funeral 7pm Tuesday May 26th at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral
Burial 11am Wednesday May 27th at Kensington Gardens

This volume presents the first complete English translation of The Prologue to the Philokalia. St. Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain, eighteenth-century compiler of the Philokalia, wrote the prologue as a guide and introduction to his famous anthology of spiritual texts. He explains his project fully as a collection on the prayer of the heart, intended to complement his own writings on the ethical and sacramental dimensions of the Christian life. This complete edition of the prologue also features commentary and essays by translator Fr. Maximos Constas. Its purpose is to prepare the reader to engage with the Philokalia as it truly is: an explication of the hesychastic tradition in its fullness.

Hello Eighth Day Readers!! Please join us for summer reading BINGO starting June 20th! Anyone is eligible to play. Please see the rules below as well as the BINGO card attached. Come in to the store or call if you have questions!

EDB 2025 Summer Reading Rules

1. Use the categories in the Eighth Day Bingo grid to help you decide your summer reading list!
2. Any books read between June 20, 2025 and September 22, 2025 are eligible to count towards a bingo.
3. A bingo consists of reading 5 books in five different categories that correspond to squares going across, down, or diagonal.
4. For every bingo, you earn a raffle ticket that makes you eligible to win a $100 Eighth Day Books gift card, a $50 Eighth Day Books gift card, or an Eighth Day mug.
5. Signup by submitting your name, email, and phone number at the Eighth Day front counter or by calling the store at (316) 683-9446. Once we have your info we will give you your bingo card or email it to you upon request.
6. Everyone’s a winner! Anyone who signs up for bingo and reads at least one book this summer will be invited to a social at Eighth Day Books (Date and Time TBD) that will include an exclusive in-store sale!

An Important Note: The goal of Summer Bingo is to encourage people to read as a community and promote fun, local discussions about good books. If you have questions about whether a particular book qualifies for a particular category, please feel free to ask us. Our goal is not to be super technical in what qualifies for a particular category! Also, we will accept bingo submissions on the honors system but will limit cards to one per customer.
