SpunkyHouse

SpunkyHouse Welcome! I’m all about making useful, fun, & colorful goods to brighten spaces and lift spirits. She was British and a wonderful cook.

SpunkyHouse was inspired by a wonderful, kind, smart, funny, loving, and spunky woman...my Mom. I grew up with lovely smells coming from our kitchen as Mom made curries with samosas, roast beef & Yorkshire puddings, shepherd's pie, cheese & onion enchiladas, chile relleno casserole, freshly baked cookies...she made these throughout my life and hosted family meals on Sundays once we had families of

our own. From as far back as I can remember, we always used double oven mitts in the kitchen. She brought them back with her from England when I was young, as they are staples in many British/European kitchens. Whenever she'd find one here locally, she'd sn**ch it up, because they are not easily found over here in the U.S. In 2012, 4 years after my mother passed from ovarian cancer, I bought myself a sewing machine and decided I'd like to make some mitts for myself/family in remembrance of my Mom and her love of cooking, which has also become a love of my own. My mother loved to sew/craft as well and made many outfits for me and my sister when we were young, as well as other decoratives for the home/gifts. After making a few mitts, I enjoyed it so much and wanted to honor my Mom by making and selling something she used often in her kitchen with the hope that their fun and colorful patterns might bring joy to others' kitchens as Mom brought joy to ours. SpunkyHouse was born in 2012 and introduced to our local shopper's market. It has since been sold at crafts shows, outdoor markets, flea markets, and other area events. Some of these include: Holy Cross Bazaar, Craftapalooza, Red Barn Outdoor Market, Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair, Magdalen Bazaar, Wichita Flea Market, Old Town Farm & Art Market, and more. Hope this New Year is finding you healthy and happy as you look towards your 2026 plans and goals. My words for 2026 are Slow Down and I wanted to start by taking a moment to acknowledge the places who welcomed me as a vendor in 2025. SpunkyHouse popped up 36 times this year and you all showed up! I am thankful to have been invited by Linda with Plymouth Congregational Church Fine Arts Committee to display my sewn goods in their space this winter. Yesterday my daughter and I had the opportunity to meet Linda (not pictured) while we set up and she was so kind and welcoming. While there, we met another creative, watercolor batik painter and printmaker Becka Jahelka who was also setting up and hanging her beautiful artwork to be displayed down the hallway. Linda told us about their Fine Arts Committee and that alongside inviting various local artists to display there throughout the year, they also offer dinners, host various events/productions, and offer classes to try different art and creative mediums, like crocheting, among other things. I love that this church offers worship services to all, and also welcomes a creative spirit that is shared not only with their members, but with the Wichita area community as well. See their website for their schedule and info. You may view and purchase our displayed pieces in person through 2/23/26 at:

This was the last custom order I finished for 2025 and I think they turned out beautifully. She asked for three coordinating Placemat Sets in “browns and blues” with three Oven Kitchen Hang Towels that matched the placemats. What do you think of these?
