SpunkyHouse was inspired by a wonderful, kind, smart, funny, loving, and spunky woman...my Mom. I grew up with lovely smells coming from our kitchen as Mom made curries with samosas, roast beef & Yorkshire puddings, shepherd's pie, cheese & onion enchiladas, chile relleno casserole, freshly baked cookies...she made these throughout my life and hosted family meals on Sundays once we had families of
our own. From as far back as I can remember, we always used double oven mitts in the kitchen. She brought them back with her from England when I was young, as they are staples in many British/European kitchens. Whenever she'd find one here locally, she'd sn**ch it up, because they are not easily found over here in the U.S. In 2012, 4 years after my mother passed from ovarian cancer, I bought myself a sewing machine and decided I'd like to make some mitts for myself/family in remembrance of my Mom and her love of cooking, which has also become a love of my own. My mother loved to sew/craft as well and made many outfits for me and my sister when we were young, as well as other decoratives for the home/gifts. After making a few mitts, I enjoyed it so much and wanted to honor my Mom by making and selling something she used often in her kitchen with the hope that their fun and colorful patterns might bring joy to others' kitchens as Mom brought joy to ours. SpunkyHouse was born in 2012 and introduced to our local shopper's market. It has since been sold at crafts shows, outdoor markets, flea markets, and other area events. Some of these include: Holy Cross Bazaar, Craftapalooza, Red Barn Outdoor Market, Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair, Magdalen Bazaar, Wichita Flea Market, Old Town Farm & Art Market, and more.
