It’s What’s New Wednesday! There’s a lot of information to cover, so let’s get started…

Well, folks, after much interest from many people, we unfortunately do not have a buyer for Cotton & Wool Co. So, we will be having a liquidation sale beginning next week. The sale will be short and sweet, mainly due to limited assistance. In that regard, we will try our very best to keep things moving at a steady pace and get you in and out quickly, but please be aware there will probably be some wait time. My mantra for the duration will be “patience”. Molly will be here from the 11th through the 18th, so if you’d like to visit with her, stop on by! All that being said, we are still open to discussion with anyone who wants to own a shop. In other words, the opportunity is still available.

Below are the particulars of the sale as well as another announcement, so please read to the end. As always, if you know of someone who doesn’t use social media, please spread the word…we’d love to see everyone one last time!

We will be holding two Stitch Days in June, one on June 4 as normal and at normal times, and another “special edition” on June 18 which will last ALL DAY LONG (10:00a to 6:30p). That day will be the last time we’ll officially have the shop open, so even if you don’t join us to stitch, stop on in to say goodbye.

Hey, there! Happy Saturday!

For our knitters out there, one of our lovely customers recently brought to my attention that the free pattern from Malabrigo (Arrow Cowl) you may have received on LYS day has some issues, namely very minimal direction and potentially too few cast-on stitches. The cast-on calls for 102 stitches which may be quite a snug-fitting circumference, depending on how tight your tension is. So, you may want to consider casting on more stitches (in multiples of 6), especially if you don't do a test swatch/block for gauge. Our customer cast on 126. Also, the pattern instructs to knit Rows 1 - 36 and repeat. If you follow that, your pattern will end up looking wonky. So, it's been suggested to knit rows 1 - 36 once and then knit repeat rows of 13 - 36 until you achieve approximately 8 inches in width. Finished size after blocking should be 8 x 23".

My apologies for all of this errata. I have not had the chance to knit the cowl for myself and am so sorry for not being aware of the problems from the get-go.😔

A very quick What’s New Wednesday:

--We are still in discussion with a few parties regarding the sale of the store, but there is nothing definite to report at this point. As soon as we have any news on that front, we will be sure to let you all know.

--Just a reminder that if you have Cotton & Wool Co. gift cards and/or Loyalty Rewards Points, you have a little over two weeks to cash them in. We had previously set the cutoff date as May 31, but have extended that to June 1 which is a Saturday. I apologize for not paying enough attention before as to what dates fell on which days. So, June 1 is the last day!

It’s a short What’s New Wednesday this week…

--Just a reminder that our next Intro to Knitting class begins in a little over a week. Scheduled for May 4, 11, & 18, this 3-class series will teach students how to knit, purl, cast-on, bind-off, and read patterns. Students will also be introduced to two different styles of knitting: English and Continental. Supplies needed and other particulars can be found on our website (and you can sign up there, too) or drop by the store for more info. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to knit or just need a refresher course, this is the class for you!

--Local Yarn Store Day is this Saturday, April 27. Pop on by…we’d love to see you and whatever project you are working on. And, to celebrate, for every Malabrigo yarn purchase you make, you’ll receive a free QR/coupon code for the Arrow cowl. This lovely, two-color cowl is a quick knit, using just two skeins of Rios. It might be tough deciding which two colors to choose!

Words are failing us right now. The outpouring of love, understanding, and support you all have shown us means more than you can ever truly know. So, simply said, from the bottom of our hearts, thanks to each and every one of you!❤️

Since this has been a different kind of a week, how about we do a quick What's New Friday?

--Several new colorways from Steel Fl**zy in Fi*****ng and Worsted weight are in the shop! And, as is the norm, the music-related theme is carried on in the color names. Check out Hey Jealousy, Secondhand Store, Vacation, and Stranded at the Drive-In to name a few. Are you humming any tunes?

--Also from Steel Fl**zy is some seriously gorgeous Mohair! This blend of 72% brushed Superkid Mohair and 28% Mulberry Silk is oh so soft and oh so fuzzy! I’m seeing a super cozy cardi or pullover in my knitting future.

--The June Door Banner was on my mind this past weekend. With record temps of 93 in April, one of those popsicles would have been the perfect way to beat the heat! Subscriptions for the year-long program are still available. Stop by and ask for details or check the program out on our website.

--Lastly, we have additional colorways in the ever-popular West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply yarn. This blend of Blue-faced Leicester and nylon combines softness with durability, ideal for any fi*****ng weight project, but especially perfect for making long-wearing, toe-toasting socks!

This week’s What’s New Wednesday is a little bit different…

It’s been two years since we decided to take the plunge and do what we had dreamed of for so long. I remember just how palpable the excitement was as we began the journey of turning an empty shell of a space into what it is today. Eighteen months in business has flown by, and each day has been filled with that same excitement of doing what we love, being part of the crafting community, and hopefully providing inspiration and encouragement to others along the way.

The last couple of weeks have been especially busy, a veritable whirlwind with back-to-back, “out of the blue” kind of things. In a nutshell, Molly will be staying in West Virginia to continue her work with the National Park Service, my husband was offered and accepted a job out of state, and Cotton & Wool Co. is FOR SALE! This is a relatively short window of opportunity as there are some time constraints involved, but we hope someone out there feels the same sort of excitement we do and wants to continue what we started. The groundwork is done, and the foundation is solid. All that’s needed is the right person(s) to keep this little shop moving forward. If you have serious interest in keeping the momentum going or know someone who does, please reach out via private message or phone or simply stop on by so we can set up a time to discuss particulars.

For the time being, nothing will be changing other than the two items below but keep an eye on social media for updates. Also, if you know of anyone who does not use social media, would you please spread the word and let them know the news? We greatly appreciate that.

--Our Rewards Program: The last day to accrue reward points will be April 30. You will then have one month (through May 31) to redeem your points for in-store savings.
--Gift Cards: All gift cards must be redeemed by May 31.

This is such a bittersweet time for us, and we hope you understand that the decision to sell and move on was not made lightly or in haste. We will miss each and every one of you and can’t thank you enough for the generosity and support extended to us.

It’s time for What’s New Wednesday!

--As promised last week, we have received our latest shipment of Malabrigo Rios. The ever-popular Sunset, Marte, and Ankara Green have been restocked, and there are a few new colors on our shelves as well: Apple Green, Blue Jean, and Medusa. I feel a new project coming on!🙃

--Also as promised, the Steel Fl**zy delivered an amazing assortment of Choir Sets!😍 Pictured here is just a small sample of the colorways that are in-house. Comprised of one full-size hank and five minis, these fi*****ng weight sets are absolutely perfect for two-hank shawl and cowl patterns. Treat the five minis as Color A and the larger hank as Color B (or vice versa) and you are on your way to having a gorgeous project!

--More happy, bright colors can be found in Blue Sky Fibers’ Organic Cotton. This environmentally friendly, 2-ply worsted weight yarn is a dream for knitting and crocheting, and is perfect for baby knits as well as Summer tanks and Tees.

--Any camping enthusiasts out there? Come see The Great Outdoors! This woodsy collection brings to mind hiking, fishing, cool nights, and campfires. And, for the little campers, this collection comes with a panel to make a “beary” adorable backpack. I’m working on putting the shop model together so you can see just how cute it is!☺️

--Last but not least, Wild Haven by Cloud 9 has arrived. Filled with birds, foxes, florals, and insects, this collection celebrates the serenity of nature in all its vibrant beauty. Isn't it lovely?

Hello, everyone! Checking in from West Virginia to update you all on what's been going on.

I finally, after having been out here for a good 7 months, took the time to take a trip to DC. It was a crazy long weekend (and I forgot that Sunday was St. Patrick's Day 🤣) packed with travel, sightseeing, and shopping. I went to visit a friend before she is off to Hawaii for a year-long job and we all had a blast! While it wasn't yet peak season for the cherry blossoms, they still made for a beautiful sight. I had to include some photos of the delicious food. We had quite the variety from Ethiopian to Filipino-inspired and Asian-inspired dishes. They were all amazing and definitely worth writing home about 😁

Also, I wish to let everyone know that my internship has been extended to the end of June! It's a bit of an unexpected development but an exciting one 😊

P.S. The hats are still on going but the end is in sight! It'll be nice to start a different project with a different pattern and to also get back to my EPP. It's been on hold for far too long.
