THE GUN THAT SHAPED THE WEST!
There is perhaps, no more storied a firearm in American history than the C**t Single Action Army Revolver. Referred to as the SAA, the Model P, the M1873, and most famously as The Peacemaker, the C**t SAA is legendary to be sure. It was the preferred sidearm of gunslingers of years past including Wyatt Earp, Butch Cassidy, Billy the Kid, Belle Star, Jesse James, and Bat Masterson. Still other infamous frontiersmen like Wild Bill Hickock and Doc Holliday seemed to prefer the variation of the C**t SAA and, instead, used the C**t SA Navy revolver. Many of these famous owners’ guns have sold and a quick internet search can lead down an amazing rabbit hole of American history.
There have been three generations of the C**t SAA. Gen 1 guns were manufactured prior to 1956. Gen 2 guns were built between 1956 and 1978 and Gen 3 guns have been produced since 1978. While C**t SAA revolvers are still produced, they are prized, expensive, and can be (depending on variation) very difficult to source. That said, a matched set of C**t SAA .45 Long C**t revolvers is a pretty spectacular addition to any gun collection! I’m unaware of any C**t SAA (save a pistol that’s been neglected or left in the elements) that has ever lost value. They are like Rolex watches or Ferbrache’ eggs – they simply appreciate and become more and more valuable. Some of the infamous names mentioned above have had their personal guns sold for millions of dollars. I once read a news story about a thief who stole a C**t SAA from a home in the northwest, only to use the gun to conduct several more robberies before being apprehended. After investigation, it was learned that the pistol the perpetrator was using was valued north of $200,000.00 – poetic justice I suppose!
Last week a gentleman meandered into Point Blank Gun Works and explained that he had a few C**t SAA revolvers he was interested in selling. Turns out, he had an even dozen of the prized guns. Six are nickel and six are case hardened. He had two of each finish in 7.5”, 5.5”, and 4.75” – As you might imagine, I was shocked to see so many of these remarkable pistols at one time. These guns were all produced between 1995 and 1998, and most amazingly of all, they had never been fired. They were all in their original boxes and he explained that most of the guns had never seen the light of day outside their boxes! Well, suffice it to say, after some negotiations, I was able to purchase the guns. They are now for sale here at Point Blank Gun Works and if you ever intend to add a C**t SAA (or two), to your collection, come on down… I’m certain they won’t last long!
