It's been a while, but the Garage (Band) Sale is returning July 10-11 (Friday/Saturday). We've accumulated a lot of instrument oddities, parts, carcasses, and items of no known use...it's time to clear out the catacombs! Bargains galore, and grist for your own projects, art installations, or instrument explorations.
We're still finding/cleaning/ and pricing things, but we know there will be accordions, drums, some wind instruments, guitar parts, wind and string accessories, some actual higher-end values (including a vintage bari sax!), and of course a ton of vintage sheet music (nuthin' over $4 in print!).
We are also trying to make sure there are truly affordable items for the project-oriented and younger shoppers--true garage sale fodder.

We had great time presenting the Instrument Petting Zoo at Westlake's Music a la Mode last Saturday! Skyline faculty and volunteers had a steady stream of instrument-curious kids of all ages--even some adults! We love getting a chance to do these events, and it's great that the parents get to see the fun.

It's Westlake's Music a la Mode weekend--and our Instrument Petting Zoo will be back! Even better, you don't have to be a Westlake native--just come on in to the Red Brick Room off the cafeteria!
Of course, it's also a great opportunity to see all the student ensembles perform throughout the day, AND there's cake and ice cream, plus raffles, and other ways to support music education and live performance.
Come on down, and bring the kids to the Petting Zoo!

Coming to Westlake Performing Arts Center Sunday May 3: The Cleveland Philharmonic! Even cooler, the music director is Westlake's own Dean Buck, who also worked at Skyline Music in his "formative" years.

ADDITIONAL FACULTY ANNOUNCEMENT!
We are pleased to welcome two new teachers to our woodwind faculty: Sam Hudock, oboe, and Genevieve Cecile, flute. Both have undergraduate degrees in performance from Baldwin-Wallace University. In addition, Sam is certified in Music Education K-12 (also from BW) and Genevieve has her Masters in Composition and Experimental Sound Practices from CalArts.
Both of our new faculty members share a zest for teaching at all levels, and bring varied and deep experience in a variety of performance settings and musical styles.
They join Michael McCann (flute, clarinet, sax), Ashley Bradley (clarinet) and Christopher Burge (saxophone), allowing us to present a highly qualified and diverse woodwind faculty. All of these teachers have lesson times available, although much depends on the schedule needs of an incoming student.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our long-time guitar teacher Lee McClelland. Lee had a long career teaching even before he found a home at Skyline, and his students--recent and former--span generations.
Lee was a fine musician, actively gigging until a few weeks ago, a revered teacher, and above all, a kind and humble man who took great joy in sharing music with everyone in any setting. He will be missed not just by his students and the musicians he played with, but here at the store for coffee breaks, conversations about vintage guitars, and running jokes that brightened the day.
Our hearts go out to his wife, family, friends, and colleagues, and we are enriched and grateful for the time he spent with us.

Thirty-nine years ago today, Dan peeked out from the space that is now Merry Maids, did not see his shadow, and opened Skyline Music.
It would have been more practical if he had seen his shadow and waited six weeks, because it was as cold as it is this year, and construction was behind by about that much. We spent January 1987 working around drywallers with only a propane bullet heater to keep it livable. (Condensation on the freezing cold walls washed away the first coat of paint in the studios!)
We did not get locks on the door until mid January...meanwhile, merchandise was being delivered every day (based on having the keys to a complete unit January 1), so every day Dan waited in the underheated building for UPS, loaded the boxes into his van, and unloaded at home until the space was secure.
There was no electricity on February 2; they ran an extension cord from the house that stood where the Beauty Shop is today, across the parking lot. (What could go wrong?) Work lights were dropped from the ceiling, and every time the furnace kicked in, the lights would dim.
We opened on a Monday, the first sale was on Wednesday. The first lessons were taught that Saturday, and power was finally hooked up on the 11th.
And the rest is history, of a sort.
We thank you for sticking with us, joining us mid story, and weathering the many storms since. Watch this space for more fun (in a heated building, thankfully!)
