Happy World Sea Turtle Day! 🐢

Did you know that nearly 52% of the world’s sea turtles have ingested plastic? To a sea turtle, a floating plastic bag looks almost identical to a jellyfish — one of their favorite meals. Ingested plastic can block their digestive systems, cause infections, and ultimately be fatal. Entanglement in fishing lines and plastic debris is another leading cause of injury and death for all seven sea turtle species, every one of which is either vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered.

This World Sea Turtle Day, come see the reality of plastic pollution up close. Dr. Katharine Owens’ Entangled and Ingested at the Pam Sartory GalleRE brings these stories to life through powerful, life-sized portraits of the animals most affected — built entirely from the plastics harming them. 🌊♻️
