Pittsburgh Post Gazette Article from October 1978, talking about the mall being in construction. List the 5 planned anchors as JC Penney's, Kaufmann's, Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Joseph Horne Company. Gimbels was not originally planned for the mall, but Horne's was. Supposedly, Horne's backed out as a part of gentleman's agreement between them and DeBartolo, and Gimbels would take their place in the lineup just one year later.

People are always asking about the turtles at Century III Mall. Through a bit of research, I finally found out what company made them and who the original sculptor was. The sculptor is Jim Miller-Melberg, and he founded a company Form Inc. which made "sculptures for play" out of formed concrete. The turtle was just one of many different types of fixtures for playgrounds and parks they made. This is the page on the turtles from a old Form Inc Catalog. These turtles were very common in playgrounds, public parks, and other recreational areas across the nation up through the 90s. -BLS

Not Century III, but Century III's big sister mall (by 3 years Opened 1976), Randall Park Mall in North Randall, Ohio is going to be demolished. Randall Park was once the "crown jewel of the DeBartolo empire" It hasn't been closed nearly as long as the news brief says, but it has become in a state of disrepair. Now it is to be demolished, and the site redeveloped into a industrial park.

Apparently according to the news today, Century III has changed hands again. Moonbeam Capital investments LLC, a Las Vegas based company has made a deal. They said they aren't looking to flip it either. Instead they want to revive it.

"We're long-term investors, not looking to flip the project at all but instead seeing how we can make it better and turn it around to be the shopping hub that it was,"

We almost lost our ENTIRE archive last month! I could not afford to pay on the storage unit I had it all stored in, but I have now moved it all to a safe place where I don't have to worry about that again. No more storage units for something this important! I don't need this stuff turning up on any of those storage unit auction shows like Auction Hunters or Storage Wars. -EGS

I am aware of the recent press the mall has been seeing these past 2 weeks. However, due to moving, I have not been able to get around to my Century III stuff like I used to. Because of this, I had to scrap my idea of a fan get-together for now. - EGS
