Duck Prairie Goods is a website devoted to hand gathered or home grown items and useful items of old-fashioned quality and processes using materials close to the earth such as leather, rawhide, wool, iron, wood, and pottery. It utilizes the skills and knowledge of each individual in our family: two young men who have been braiding leather and rawhide since they were 13 years old and were trained

by a long-time braider, Don Brown. They create pieces of horse tack that are functional works of art. Another young man has been learning how to manipulate metals for about 10 years. Through hand fabricating processes such as forging, cutting, and filing, and machining with a metal lathe, he has learned to create knives and muzzleloading rifles from putting together kits to fabricating each part--from the wood stock and grips to the metal blades on knives and each individual metal part on a firearm including short barrels, the locks, triggers, magazines, and accessory parts such as butt plate, patch box, etc.--completely by hand from the raw materials. Our items tend to trend toward the old-fashioned, basic living, and healthy lifestyle.
