In the 1920s and Depression-era 1930s, 4-H "Pig Clubs" or "Baby Beef Projects" engaged boys (and some girls) aged 12–18 in raising hogs or calves from birth. Teens built pens, managed feed, tracked growth records, and exhibited at county fairs. One notable Midwest example: club members raised litters that won top prizes, selling pigs for profit to help families buy school clothes or pay debts when crop prices plummeted. These projects taught business skills, animal care, and resilience, with many youth crediting them for family farm survival during economic hardship.

Hello friends! We hope you’re enjoying this beautiful, much-needed sunshine ☀️

Spring is in full swing here at the farm, and we’ve been busy with planting, upkeep, and getting everything ready for the season ahead.
Raising Christmas trees was always one of Dad’s greatest passions—especially seeing families come together and make memories here. Lately, we’ve been reflecting on that a lot, and it reminded us of something simple and true: no Christmas tree farm is truly complete without a few furry family members.

This spring, we’re welcoming a free petting zoo to the farm—starting with two absolutely adorable goats, arriving later this March! These sweet friends were generously donated by our wonderful friends at Towns End Clydesdales and Carriages, and we can’t wait for you to meet them.

Our goal is to create a place where families can enjoy hands-on experiences with animals while helping us care for them. Donations to our Goat Habitat Fund will go directly toward fencing, shelter, feed, and veterinary care. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us get ready to welcome these little ones home ❤️

This is only the beginning. We have a few ideas in mind, but as the petting zoo grows, we’d surely love your input…

🐾 What animals would you love to see at the farm next?

If you’d like to help us prepare for the goats’ arrival, donations to our Goat Habitat Fund can be made here:
