To celebrate how awesome the BBs staff was during our crazy busy Indie Bookstore Day/Free Comic Book Day season, we had our monthly staff meeting at Melon Press with Sophia Malone! ☀ Sophia gave everyone a fab presentation on Riso, and we learned all about its history, how it works, and even did some printing of our own! 😎

Thanks so much to Melon Press for hosting us, and if you ever want to do any Riso work of your own, head to their page to scope out their events and workshops!

☁About your Camp Counselor, Katie Schaefer: ☁

If you’ve admired the whimsical window murals or hand-painted signage at Betty’s Books, you’ve already met the work of local illustrator Katie Schaefer.

With a BFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the School of Visual Arts, Katie naturally blends her creative practice with a passion for education. For over 15 years, she has guided young artists in schools and art programs across New York City and St. Louis as a certified K-12 educator. Her freelance portfolio is equally diverse, ranging from greeting card designs for Trader Joe’s to vibrant murals for the Cherokee Street CID.

Katie knows just what’s needed to nurture a child’s artistic skills while celebrating their endless imaginations and interests. She is thrilled to be leading the creative camps here at Betty’s Books!
