Please keep the family of C.W. (Junior) Simmons in your thoughts and prayers.

Most people know Junior as the OSSAA Music Administrator for 16 years, but many of us still remember his outstanding career as a band director. He directed bands at Lamont, Medford, Fairview and Enid. He was President of the Oklahoma Bandmasters and was honored as an OBA Hall of Fame member and OkMEA Hall of Fame member also! After retirement from the OSSAA, he was the Director of the Tri-State Music Music Festival for several years!

He was born and grew up in the Northwestern Oklahoma town of Waynoka (I believe he had 9-10 siblings) and received his Music degree at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

He passed peacefully Friday evening, December 13, with his wife, Marjorie, at his side. Please keep her and the rest of his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Service: Thursday, Dec 19, 2:00 PM
First United Methodist Church of Enid
401 W Randolph, Enid, OK

(Viewing will be Wednesday, Dec 18, 6:00-8:00 PM)
Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home

An Extremely Talented Musician, Great Person and Friend to All passed away Friday, April 8, 2022. Christian "Al" Jensen will certainly leave a huge void in many of our lives.
Services are scheduled:

10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 12, 2022
Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church
110 North Madison, Enid, OK 73701
110 North Madison Enid, OK 73701

Handling the service will be:
Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home (Across the street South from the church)
601 W. Broadway, Enid, OK 73701
(However, there will be NO public Viewing)

Al (Christian “Al" Jensen) opened Jensen Music Store in Enid in about 1965 and retired in the early 2000’s.
Before opening Jensen Music Store, he had graduated from Julliard after winning a scholarship there at 16 years old and later was awarded a degree in Music Performance. When he was 18, he auditioned and earned a sought-after position as Oboist in the NBC Symphony Orchestra in New York City, conducted by well-known Toscanini! Many of us have enjoyed his stories about his experiences in that orchestra. However, in 1947, his Dad’s business partner passed away and Al was called back to Texas to help manage the family business, until 1964, when they sold the business. At this time he was living with his family in Enid and decided to make it his home, soon opening Jensen’s Music Store! And now, Al and Marie are joyfully dancing in Heaven!

From: Mike Plunkett, OSSAA:

To all participants,
Dear music teachers,

On June the 3rd I had a zoom conference call where I shared with you information about a study that the National Federation of high schools was putting on to research aerosol distribution of Covid 19 in music rooms. The study has been endorsed by over 100 different music organizations and will cost around $300,000. The study will last approximately six months, but the first preliminary information was released yesterday. Back in June I told you I would help disseminate any information that came from this study to you in the classroom.

Yesterday they released round one preliminary information, which was centered around clarinet, flute, horn, trumpet, and a single soprano singer. Preliminary results for singing and theatre are expected by July 25 with guidance expected to be released the last week of July.

At the bottom of this email I will provide you a link that will allow you to take a look at the results. I would encourage you to take some time to read what the preliminary information indicates, watch the videos yourself, come to your own conclusions. I believe that the GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS at the end of the document could be helpful when planning next year. There is some useful information about wearing masks, using bell covers on some instruments, the use of HEPA filters, social distancing, the length of rehearsals, the amount of airflow in your room and other suggestions. I encourage you to please read these yourself so that YOU can determine what can be done to lower the risk of Covid 19 with you and your music students.

When the next round of results is released, I will send that information out as well. REMEMBER THAT THIS IS VERY EARLY, PRELIMINARY INFORMATION THAT MIGHT CHANGE AS THE STUDY PROCEEDS. I understand that the school year is fast approaching, and decisions are being made each day concerning how classrooms will look. The only thing we know for sure is that the music room next year will definitely not look the same as in the past! I hope this information will prove helpful.

I’m saddened greatly to hear about the passing of friend, Raymond (Ray) Edward Hunt.

Ray was born in Nowata and passed on there also.

However, he touched many of our lives as a band director in Waynoka, Shattuck, Yukon, Oklahoma City, Stillwater and also Nowata.

I did not know where Ray went to college after he graduated from Nowata. If you know, PLEASE let me know. It will be greatly appreciated.

There will be a private family service, but there will be a celebration of life:
July 15, 2017, 1:00-3:00 PM
Jane Phillips Medical Center-Redbud Cafe
Bartlesvillle, OK

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
