“come celebrate with me that everyday something has tried to kill me and has failed…”

Some writing doesn’t ask for your attention. It holds it.

It brings you back to the truth of living. To what you’ve survived. To what you’re still holding. To the fact that you’re still here.

What are you still learning how to carry?

The Juneteenth Book Drop is live. 🎉

“My first word was mother.” — Tayari Jones

Some stories begin with family.

With the women who raised us. The people who knew our names before we knew ourselves. The relationships that shaped us, challenged us, and taught us what it means to love and be loved.

This one made us think about connection. About belonging. About the people who help make us who we are.

What does it look like to belong to someone and still remain yourself?

#1 question these days: y’all still sell books?

100% yes.

Matter of fact, the Juneteenth Book Drop is on the way, and we’ve got pop-ups lined up all summer.

Our website is always open. You can shop print books, audiobooks, merch, and keep up with where we’ll be popping up next.

Socialight Society has always been about more than books, and we’re excited to let you in on some new-ish projects soon. But yes, we are still curating, still book slinging, still popping up in the community, and still sharing Black stories with care.

Join the newsletter so you don’t miss the book drop, the summer schedule, or what’s coming next.

Issa book drop.

A curated collection of stories that speak to how we live, how we love, and what we carry.

This year’s Juneteenth Book Drop is centered on self, relationship, and the quiet work of becoming. These are the kinds of books that stay with you long after you turn the last page. The kinds of books that shape conversations, friendships, and the way we move through the world.

Three books. One conversation.

“I don’t want to make somebody else. I want to make myself.”

Some books stay with you. This was one of mine. The way it holds women, fully and without apology, shaped how I think about identity and what it means to choose yourself.

What does it mean for you to make yourself, on your own terms?

Hey friend—this one is special.

Since closing our physical space, I’ve been thinking about what it means to keep building community beyond the walls. This is our first event since the transition, and I couldn’t be more honored.

Socialight Society is hosting right here in Lansing for the Malcolm Lives book tour.

📅 Friday, May 16 at 7:30 PM
📍 Delta Township District Library

Just days before what would’ve been Malcolm X’s 100th birthday, we’re gathering in the city that helped shape his early years—to reflect, to learn, and to honor the legacy.

MALCOLM LIVES is the first major biography of Malcolm X for young readers in over 30 years. Created in collaboration with his estate, it brings his story to life through never-before-seen photos, letters, and more.

🎟️ Book purchase = your seat. Space is limited.
Can’t make it? You can still order your copy at the link in bio.

Big thanks to Delta Township District Library for opening their space to us for this gathering.

Let’s show up, together. For the story. For the legacy. For the community we’re still building—page by page.
