We are a dealer for Babylock, Singer, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking sewing machines and Handiquilter Longarm Quilting machines. We clean and repair all makes of home domestic sewing machines in the store. For your fabric needs we have quilting and apparel fabric including fine linens and wool as well as vinyl, oilcloth and upholstery fabric and supplies. In business since since 1949 and one of very few who carry all 366 colors of Kona solids, all the fusions, prisma dyes and quilters linen.

So a few weeks ago , I had the pleasure to service a Bernina 830 . It was in perfect condition . So this 817 is the flatbed version and this one came in not working . Turned out to be the motor and I was fortunate to find parts to fix it . So now it will have another 50 years plus , Mechanically , it is still like new , even though you can tell it’s had over 50 years of good use by the wear to the needle plate .
With a partially empty parking lot , I decided to also clear up a misconception some have had .

Of course not at all a surprise ! At now almost Noon , there’s plenty of open spots !
So one comment to my last post was rather disturbing .
“ I have tried multiple times to visit your store , but was unable to find a parking spot . This is ridiculous ! “
Over and over again , I see comments that customers no longer shop Downtown , because of the lack of parking , because of Colby taking over the Concourse .
Now President Greene has written at least one check into the six figures to get a business that he wanted . Then there are the special deals . I wonder what he would do if I send him an invoice for our over 2 million in lost sales , since the dorm was built ?

So for Colby Graduation , they needed to bring in a bus service . As both students living in the dorm , commuter students and parents needed to be moved from , taking up Downtown Municipal parking , up to the actual campus . As usual, note the large number of students using their assigned Appleton Street lot!
Now there were a number of cars parking at Head Of Falls . None were Colby students ! All Maine plates . A event at the Opera House and high school students taking prom photos by the Two Cent Bridge .

It really has become just beyond belief .Colby College has the dubious distinction of being , the only college amongst its peers , where student parking outside of college parking lots is a problem . No students park in municipal parking lots at Amherst Bates , Bowdoin , Dartmouth , Middlebury or Williams . In the research the Parking committee did it was found that the City Officials , Police Department , the Schools Administration and Campus Security work together to successfully control parking . In Waterville that is reversed , which is why the problem is so bad . Every promise ,to get the Downtown dorm permit , have been broken .

So now it’s time to get in the new models . So here are two new Horn cabinets , with one at an unusually low price for a Horn Cabinet . Nice to know one is buying cabinets , that are still built in West Virginia , with lifetime guarantees !

So how long does it take to get the covers off a Singer 301A to service it ? That would be less than 5 minutes ! Two screws in the top cover and one screw to take the bottom cover off . Then the side cover just swings out.
Now how long does it take to get the covers off a modern , especially top of the line machine , Being a series of snap together panels and a multitude of screws , it’s easily a good hour .
So , yes today’s machines offer a multitude of amazing features , but for those of us that service them , it would be great to get back to much simpler cases !

So every quilter wants to own at least one Singer 221k Featherweight . You will pay at least $600 in its original case . Yes, the machine is very light . Just around 12 pounds. . Now you also only have a 4” throat and 5 inches of inside height .
Now another machine to consider is its bigger sister , at just around 20 pounds . . The Singer 301-A , In its original case , can easily be found for around $200 . You now have a 7.5 throat and over 5 inches of inside height .
Both have the same hook system that give you an amazing perfect straight stitch . With the 301A giving you a more powerful machine .
The Singer 301A , is a machine , well worth considering to be part of your sewing machine grouping .
