A salute to friends, neighbors, and those I’ve yet to meet who live and love in the “fly over states”. We make up this great country from our small towns, back roads, farm sites, and city dwelling communities.

When I’m at work, traveling, or meet someone new and they ask me where I’m from, I proudly say “South Dakota!” A look of surprise or confusion often comes over their face. Almost like they can’t imagine life exists here or that I would choose to be here. Then the usual response of “I’ve never been there” or “what do you do there” or my personal favorite, “Why?”.

Society can be so judgy when it comes to where people live. Each state has so many unique landscapes, cultural differences, and communities to explore. We would be a big ol’ boring country if we all jammed ourselves into one or two of the most populated cities. I’ve always been perplexed why some think we wouldn’t choose to live here and stay here.

Be proud of your home, your community, your state, and your country. We all have differences and we don’t need to agree on all topics (again boring if we all did)!
