July 31. Always feels like that subtle turning point, like summer’s last chapter. I’m feeling a bit nostalgic today for…

Lawn games.
Picnics.
Cookouts on the grill.
Lobster rolls.
Boat rides.
Garden flowers.
And lingering warm nights.

Just sharing that feeling before the season begins to turn. Soaking it all in, with a smile.

One of Yountville’s smallest landmarks… and one of its most beloved (and often photographed).

These whimsical Rock Mushrooms are just outside the Yountville Post Office, and have been making locals and visitors smile for years. 🍄‍🟫🍄‍🟫 Created by California sculptor Richard Botto, they’re part of the Yountville Art Walk, which is an ever-changing collection of outdoor public sculptures thoughtfully placed throughout town.

They found their way into my sketchbook today… and soon, onto a Yountville postcard.🤍

Five years ago today, I launched Ivy Paperie.✨

What began with a paintbrush, a childhood love of paper, and a curious desire to see what might happen has grown into something I could have never fully imagined.

Many of you know that before Ivy Paperie, I spent 15 years in the dental profession as a clinician, educator, and corporate professional. Starting a creative business at 40 felt both exciting and terrifying.

The turning point came in 2020 when a neighbor invited me to co-found a community flower project called Pay It Forward Flowers. Together, we grew flowers from seed and shared more than 150 bouquets throughout Yountville… a moment that unexpectedly awakened my creativity and ultimately led me to pick up a paintbrush for the first time.

There was no grand plan.
Just a willingness to begin.

Over these five years, I’ve painted hundreds of illustrations, designed stationery collections, taught workshops, collaborated with remarkable businesses, traveled with treasured friends with watercolor in hand, and met amazing humans from all over, through art.

But perhaps the greatest gift has been the permission to build a life centered around creativity.

I still wake up excited to paint.

And five years in, it feels like we’re just getting started!!!

A bit of spring cleaning in the studio.

Every tube, laid out and painted on a swatch, just to see the color more clearly.

Over time, I’ve amassed 30+ colors.
And yet, I always return to the same few.

Green has quietly become a signature in my work, always some variation of it.
Mixed, remixed, layered.

It’s become the foundation of Ivy Paperie. 💚

And never purple, well… only once and I nudged it as close to blue as I could.

Blue is said to be the world’s most popular color.
I always return to shades of green.
