Ever wanted to win the Denali Road Lottery. Allan Long captured this incredible shot last fall
I wish I would have taken more time to compose, focus and set the exposure for this photograph. This was taken last fall during the Denali Road Lottery. I got a late start that day and when I arrived at the Eielson Visitor Center, Denali was encased in clouds and the sun was setting. I think I was the last person to leave the visitor center as I decided to sit and wait to see what would happen as the lighting was spectacular from the setting sun. After awhile, the clouds parted and Denali showed herself. Instead of working with what was given to me, I decided to rush to Stony Hill Overlook to capture a sunset photo. This was taken on my dash to the Overlook. It was a hand held shot and I couldn't get over the color that was materializing in front of me. I was torn as to what to do but decided to continue on with my objective. By the time I got to the overlook and set up my camera the color in the sky had faded and I did not get to capture what I wanted. I did learn a lesson that day, sometimes it is just best to work with what was given to you, don't rush, and don't be greedy! I hope you enjoy the photo.
