Alaska Safe Riders Youth ATV Safety Clinics are happening every Saturday in June at Jim Creek — giving youth ages 10+ the opportunity to build real riding skills, confidence, and outdoor awareness in a safe and fun environment.

Students will learn:
🛞 Safe ATV operation
🌲 Trail awareness and rider responsibility
🪖 Proper riding techniques and safety practices
💥 Hands-on riding experience with experienced instructors

One of the many benefits of these clinics is learning alongside Galen Bridgewater, whose experience in Alaska’s outdoor recreation and powersports community helps create an encouraging, knowledgeable, and confidence-building environment for young riders. Galen’s leadership with both Alaska Safe Riders and AK Powder Pursuit brings valuable real-world experience and a strong passion for rider education to every clinic.

⚠️ Students must complete the required ATV Safety E-Learning course BEFORE attending class and provide proof of completion with certificate number on event day.

Avalanche Forecasts and General Information products for the 2025-2026 season are now finished. Periods of accumulating snowfall continue for Hatcher Pass and avalanche season is not yet over. New snow, rapid warming, and wet avalanches could all be encountered throughout the spring. Head to the website to check out our webcams, weather stations, and recent observations before you head to the pass.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in and supported this season, it was at times rewarding and incredibly challenging. HPAC is a nonprofit, non agency center meaning we do not receive funding from the state or federal government and rely on individual donations to support our operations. We would not exist without the support of our amazing community.

We will continue to publish observations so if you head to the pass, take a few pictures and share what you see.

With information provided by Crown Mountain Guides, we have completed a preliminary report of the Gannett Glacier avalanche fatality that is available on the accidents page of the website.

We continue to mourn the loss of our friend and colleague Dylan Lenzie. Donations to the memorial scholarship and in support of his partner can be made in his honor at hpavalanche.org

We FINALLY got some more adult helmets in! About 40 of them between Fox Racing and Leatt Protectives. We'll get them out on the floor for you guys ASAP!

We also got a few sets of these Sedona Tire & Wheel Trail Ripr tires and I have to be honest, they might be my new favorite tire. We get customers asking for a tire that will do a little bit of everything all the time, and I think this is one of the best options out there.

❄️ Avalanche Forecast for Friday 4/17/2026 ❄️

The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 2,500’ for WIND SLAB and PERSISTENT SLAB avalanches. Below that, the danger is LOW.

Small natural avalanches and larger human-triggered avalanches in specific terrain features are possible. Expect the hazard to increase with more snowfall later today and into tomorrow, and as you climb in elevation. 

Since Wednesday, Hatcher Pass has received incremental snowfall up to 7” over the course of 48 hours. New snow has fallen on firm surfaces and areas with weak, sugary snow below. 

Approach steep terrain features with caution. Tight features could turn a small avalanche into a larger, more consequential one. Consider spotting partners one at a time on suspect slopes. 

We are in a welcomed paradigm shift. As you poke into terrain today and this weekend, remember that we are in this weather pattern for a while with more on the way. Improved surface conditions will also mean more stress on buried weak layers in the snowpack, and some uncertainty remains about how reactive they will be with slow, incremental loading.
